Thank you all for the support!

The doctor who gave me anti-depression medicine was a guy. He automatically assumed I am depressed - I have had 3 years of loose stools with no weight loss but when I saw him I had weight loss and he gave me the nortryptiline instead of any other panel of tests. He just said it was IBS and told me I may find a doctor who will give me tests but its not going to be him because he didn't think I needed it. And now 1.5 months later I lost weight again. When I posted before also I was hesitant to see him because of bad reviews but his appointment was ahead of the one I actually wanted to see so I took it. I informed him I will be having the colonoscopy and EGD and he was smirking - we found a precancerous polyp because of that colonoscopy and a polyp in my stomach as well.

I am very grateful to my GI doc who heard me. I will update when I get my results. Hoping we find out what is going on and it is something manageable and not cancer.

I’ve just read all of your pages and am rooting for you, OP. As another woman, 49, it is so frustrating to not feel heard at the doctors and go to appointment after appointment with no answers. Please keep us updated. So many of us are with you and listening.

Did you tell them that of course you are anxious because you have small kids and are worried that the weight loss is related to cancer? FFS they gave you anti-anxiety medication. My husband goes to the doctor for a tummy ache and ends up with months of tests, but you, a young mother has some seriously concerning symptoms and they say, "Are you feeling anxious dear?" I hate being a woman sometimes.

My advice to you is not to go alone if at all possible. Bring along a friend and they won't be as dismissive.

Yes, eating lunch and having a drink could add 2 pounds to your scale, easily. That wouldn't concern me, but I think you're right to be concerned about everything else.

I’m so glad your doctor is taking you seriously. Fingers crossed for good news over the coming days.

I went and gave my blood test today. The PCP and my GI doctor have ordered extra tests as well - I got them all done - Vit D, B12, TSH/T4, Iron/Ferritin, CBS, BMP, A1C.

My GI doctor also said I could have the MRI now instead of waiting until Jan and I have the order in portal.

There was another person here with IPMN who goes to the cyst clinic. If you are reading this, I would appreciate if you let me know where you had your scan - at Bayview or at the outpatient center in main campus. I'm trying to decide where to get this done.

I had also called the cyst clinic to inform of the new weight loss which they had mentioned I should do if there were new changes, and I asked for another doctor in the practice for future follow up, but was told that since I saw the other 2 doctors before I cannot see another one according to their protocol - even after I said I felt dismissed by both of them. The nurse said I am welcome to go to another center but if it is with this hospital I cannot see anyone else besides these two doctors who dismissed my concerns and the one whom I saw in August already reviewed my message. I cannot imagine that a pancreatic cyst clinic does not care if a patient has suddenly lost 8 lbs in 10 days. I think I will have to go to a different hospital if it ends up being something serious or maybe their surgery team is better than the cyst clinic, who knows.

Yesterday at my PCP office, my weight was 142.7 on their scale. Today my weight on their scale was 141.3

On my scale, today my weight was 137 mid morning (fasting for the blood work) and after lunch it was 139. I'm not even sure what is going on - does eating a plate of food add 2 lbs?

Anyways, I am so glad my GI doctor cares and took my case seriously and ordered all these tests and I feel grateful to be heard. Same with the PCP. She also listened to my concerns and ordered some tests related to Vitamin deficiencies.

I'm crossing my fingers that it is not diabetes and maybe thyroid related but with the neuropathy I don't know.

This tracks very closely with my husband who was pre-diabetic then suddenly diabetic and 112 pounds at 5'10 and was loosing 3 pounds between appointments 10- days apart. He started insulin (essentially adult onset type 1) 2 years ago and life is wonderul now.

Was going to say, OP is known pre diabetic and hasn't necessarily made lifestyle changes. Then spent the holidays eating a lot (which who hasn't, not judging). Very well could be diabetic and that would explain the weight loss

but wouldn't frequent urination and heavy sweating be on the symptoms list?

OP. I don't drink much water but yet when I pee I don't empty bladder and have to go a few times. After I eat also I feel the urge to pee. Does that count as frequent urination?

This sounds like a UTI or urethral thing perhaps brought on by underhydration.

+1
OP when you say 2 cups of water plus one cup of milk with cereal, is that all you are drinking in a day? If so you are dehydrated

That fact struck me too.

The EGD and colonoscopy were normal…. No celiac, evidence of gluten intolerance, IBD or microscopic colitis.

SIBO is a thought. Yes to pancreatic elastase. Fecal calprotectin with a normal colonoscopy seems unnecessary.

Your doctor didn’t do a finger stick to check glucose in the office? Seriously, the pediatrician did this for my daughter when she was a toddler. Takes 2 seconds. You don’t need to be fasting. And yes, she had high blood glucose and we were sent straight to the ER. The pediatrician called to let them know we were coming and she was seen immediately.

Possible diabetes is an emergency, not a wait and do a fast and we will call you back situation.

Of course not. In medicine, ER doctors motto is “treat em and street em” meaning you make sure the patient is stable and discharge them asap. They will not be doing extra testing like MRIs or endoscopic US if it is not an emergency situation.
