I think they are in a committed marriage, which is a totally different animal.
They are a professional unit at this time.
They’re absolutely not going to be together for a lifetime or anything.
It’s weird. No idea what hit Usha over the head to marry this hillbilly.
I went to YLS. It is a small place without a lot of dating options plus a feeling that you’re sort of in a close community together. I’m pretty sure they were in the same “small group” which is a group of about 10 students that have one first semester small group class together plus all their first semester classes together so naturally bond and form study groups together. Marriages from small group are not uncommon. I think maybe Jed or Amy was their small group professor and it’s not uncommon for small group professors to host get together and such. My small group professor was a nice guy but definitely not the kind to be bonding with students. There was one marriage out of my small group of 10. Anyway you spend three years with the same group of like 200 people and it’s very insular and everyone is doing the same things and having lots of intellectual conversations, so I think it makes for some pairings that you might not see in a normal world.
Nearly all attractive charismatic students at my T15 matriculated de facto engaged. Usha and JD were 25 year old 1Ls. Weird terminally single strivers like Usha and JD immediately orbit creepy over-involved professors and will do anything for them, including enter arranged relationships.
The addition of the Amy Chua and her creepy husband, Jed, to the Usha and JD Vance pairing is a weird example of how sexually toxic even the highest, most educated echelons of America are. Depressing that even highly educated men are encouraged to value their female partners for their utility value in terms of what the woman can do to increase the man’s professional value and highly educated women are encouraged to “sell” themselves to prospectively successful men instead of investing in their own professional success.

There is a reason they have been together for so long, the reason is similar values. Also, please don’t accuse me of racism, I say this as an Indian American.
IMHO, not wearing a ring means nothing, maybe she sent it for cleaning or took it off because of a million other reasons.

Yes! People make it seem like Usha is a poor unfortunate soul who is being manipulated by JD. If anything, Usha has the upper hand, and it would be interesting to see what her true intentions are. I don't trust her any more than I trust JD. She is definitely ruthless and cutthroat.
I don’t think she’s a victim but how does she have the upper hand? Jd could be with Erika Kirk next year and what would Usha have to show for it?
A book and the accompanying publicity tour about being an aggrieved wife left for a man-eating skank, which you idiots would buy into hook, line, and sinker.
Nobody will give a rat’s behind about Usha once JD dumps her.
Yes and no. I don't think the general public will care about her, but in DC she will always have a certain currency because she has seen and participated in the operations of the vice-presidency. All the campaigning, the inauguration, the intermingling with donors, the day to day events of the Second Lady, staffing, etc., give her an extra layer of experience that some will value in DC.
If she divorced JD during his vice-presidency, she could leave and say not much about it and probably be accepted by all but the Maga crowd. She would easily find a job at a DC law firm or go back to the one she was at previously, and she is well-qualified for it having clerked for 2 SCOTUS justices. She would get a hefty sign on bonus and perhaps enter as a partner.
She would retain at least half custody probably more on at least a de facto basis due to JD's work and travel obligations, and JD would pay child support (but maybe not alimony - or only alimony until she went back to work - not sure she can negotiate a new job while she is still sitting in the VP mansion and married.)
She could file and just say nothing publicly, and she would have quite a good negotiating position against JD in terms of coming to a settlement agreement on the marriage, equity and child custody and support.
So, TBH, if she wants to leave, she can leave quite easily, and it says quite a bit about her if she stays, especially after the course of the last year.
She could also remarry someone extremely wealthy.
Extremely wealthy men will not be interested because she comes with a ton of baggage and is very plain.
She without question hurt her legal career based on this debacle. Trump also target a bunch of firms that are a minimum will not be interested in hiring her either.
You mean like Human Abedin?
But Huma Abedin is elegant and attractive?
Elegant, yes. Attractive no.
-Signed a distant relative of Huma’s.
