I had lived overseas and on military bases and had gotten used to the mentality of “if you see this one thing you love in the PX, stock up because you don’t know when you’ll see it again”. In late 2019 I had finally convinced myself I didn’t need to keep storing all the TP, cleaning supplies, etc because I could always run out to the store and get more. So I was using up and getting rid of all kinds of things from my house (which has very few storage spaces). Then Covid hit, you couldn’t find TP or Lysol and many food goods, so I started getting on subscribe and save and buying in bulk. I was mail ordering baking powder from Minnesota because we couldn’t get any. I liked certain kinds of goods that were no longer in the store so I had to order. So everything got out of hand. I’m doing better about going through and using up that stuff and canceling subscriptions, but I also really like not wasting my saturdays doing basics shopping. Right now I’m catching myself in the store saying “don’t buy this. Use up what you have at home first”.

My house isn’t so bad that I won’t have anyone in it, but your much more likely to get an invite if I’ve seen your house and it’s got a ton of stuff in it too.

Hoarded food. No one can come to my house.
