wtf are you talking about OP?
Exactly. This whole thread is ridiculous.
The White House is subject to the city's environmental regulations. You think the administration can just do anything it wants? You think they could set up an oil refinery on the South Lawn and no one could say boo?
Federal enclaves are exempt from any local regulations. Yeah, they could.
Oh stop. Even Bowser's own advisers are pissed she's looking the other way on this.
Is it because they’re excellent muni lawyers, or because they’re dumb and angry?
The entire Department of Energy and Environment is really unhappy with the mayor.
And yet, DOEE has zero jurisdiction over the white house.
Of course, it has jurisdiction. It would be pretty weird if our air quality laws didn't apply to federal lands, given the massive amount of federal land in DC.
Why do you keep posting this stuff? Puerto Rico had a bombing range they hated and couldn’t do anything about. The locals can’t tell the feds what to do.
There was a big fight within the Bowser administration over whether to confront the White House on this stuff. If DC doesn't have jurisdiction (though it does), it sort of begs the question of why Bowser didn't warn the public that Trump was ignoring every environmental regulation on the books with the destruction of the East Wing. Reminder: asbestos causes cancer.

Because they have TDS, or do they have a real statutory/regulatory basis
Jeebus. These are the city's experts on these laws. They helped write the laws. I think they have a pretty good grasp of where they have jurisdiction.

I'm not terribly invested in this particular issue, but it's important to always push back against this administration whenever possible. Their corruption is so blatant and total.
Keep in mind DC in particular has been targeted because so many of its residents had that mindset the first time around. DC is meant to be a neutral capital.

I agree that those with expertise in this area have a good grasp. I disagree that those with a good grasp are those objecting.
If the President can do whatever he wants regardless of legal authority, the Mayor can do so also

You need a permit from the city to remove asbestos.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Asbestos causes cancer and when you raze a building full of asbestos, you scatter it into the air, exposing people all around. It's why we have lots and lots of regulations about it. It would have been great if Bowser could have at least warned the public about this. But that would have required her to admit she allowing Trump to ignore her regulations, so she chose to stay silent.
You think Trump called her BEFORE he destroyed The People’s House? hahahahahahahahaha
I’m now convinced that this faux concern is all about stirring things up to get Trump to focus his racist ass power tripping nastiness on yet another Black professional with power / Black female professional with power. You can’t articulate exactly what Bowser should do — just that she should do SOMETHING to somehow contain the dementor. Why aren’t you, instead, complaining about the dementor? smh
Seems like the very least Bowser could have done was warn the public that the White House was spreading carcinogens in the air, in an area where there are tens of thousands of people every day. The Bowser folks knew immediately this was happening. They send people over to take pictures of the project as soon as it began.

I wish she would take a page from Chicago's mayor and speak up for the people of DC.
DC is much more vulnerable to federal government action than Chicago. This Republican Congress already tried to cut $1.1 bn from DC's budget, which DC had tax revenue to fund. I'm no fan of Bowser, and think Trump's sudden destruction of the White House was crazy and wouldn't be surprised if it released asbestos particles and other contaminants into the air we breathe, but there's not much she could have done to stop him.
There's enough rich people in DC that she could make it up in taxes.
