First female Muslim to win a statewide race. It’s a good night for Va dems
The one who is in favor of the Tysons casino? Yes, great night in VA. /s![]()

I mean, yeah! Defeat MAGA! Woo-boo! But now we have to beat down the craziness that comes with the yahoos we elected (like the casino), so they don’t destroy Tyson’s like Trump destroyed the East Wing.
Casino support seems very uncorrelated to party affiliation
Everyone should be against gambling.
Why? It's a source of revenue, and jobs are disappearing from Virginia like crazy. Obviously, nobody wants gambling addicts, any more than we want to have alcoholics, but no one is against having bars (apart from some religious fundamentalists).
It’s that the “revenue” is largely coming from the people who can least afford to provide it. Everyone hopes to lure the whales when they open a casino, but gambling is fundamentally a poor man’s pastime. I don’t know anyone in my UMC community that goes to MGM or Charlestown for fun. Even Vegas is passé.

I think Trump isn’t going to be happy tomorrow with the headlines.
https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/11/04/us/election-new-jersey-california
Virginia Democrats now hold a 51-49 advantage in the House of Delegates, and party leaders are hoping to flip as many as nine Republican seats. It could be the biggest Democratic election in Virginia since 1989.
I'm honestly curious about the fixation on Trump. When I vote a state election, I vote based on the candidates running and their positions, not on the President. Because state and local affects my life more. When I was in Fairfax County, my taxes skyrocketed every year to the point where it became stupid to stay in retirement. I pay 15K LESS on a house in New England of the SAME VALUE then I do in Fairfax County and get to enjoy a higher quality of life.
You are "honestly curious about the fixation on Trump"? If that's true I respectfully suggest you pull your head out of your rear and wake up.
+1
Pick up a freaking newspaper and get a clue.
I’m very well-informed. I think it’s…well…obsessive, bordering on paranoia. For a state election, I’m more concerned about schools, taxes, crime, etc.

Anonymous wrote:Good night for Dems. GOP support in VA and NJ largely mirrored Trump’s favorability ratings. He was clearly a factor in the party’s losses.
Trump certainly helped weak Dem candidates like Mikie Sherrill in NJ and scandal-plagued Dem candidates like Jay Jones in VA. Both of them should probably send Thank You notes to Trump.
