Ok, if you want to hear gossips about the hos and you say that the open house was a dog and pony show, then probably you don’t need more information. You have enough information to make a decision, unless of course you enjoy the trolling.

So girls in other schools don’t wear short skirts? Just in Holton?

Yes, we all know, pedantic one. Why are you so invested in exposing your daughter’s crotch, though? What’s the psyche behind that? F’in so weird. It is so so odd that rather than be like, yeah, the skirts that are 3 inches long are not school appropriate you insist on justifying it. Crazy. Most of us with issues at our school can acknowledge it readily. It makes you all lack any credibility.

I must have misunderstood your statement that “No reasonable person could have an opinion that the skirts are normal school attire. So, ergo, not an opinion.” It seemed like you might need a couple examples of fact vs. opinion.

I, for one, am of the opinion that Hilton girls wear their skirts stupidly short and look terrible. I am also aware that is actually an opinion, however.

Anonymous wrote:Former Holton parent here: I think part of what is driving this is that the current Head of School is a polarizing figure. In part, this is not her fault, Susanna Jones was always going to be a tough act to follow. In part, though, it kind of is, I can see why many find her off-putting. It also got kind of politicized, there are those who think her selection was motivated by anti-DEI kinds of considerations, and while I think this is greatly overstated there are those who see it very differently and have been pretty vocal about that on this board. Where some see a sinister purge by the new Head, others see a natural process where the new Head wants her own people in senior posts. Full disclosure: I personally preferred Susanna and think the new head is a downgrade, but Head of School is not a role that really affects a student’s day-to-day experience all that much.

The truth, as I see it after a lot of time around these sorts of schools, is: 1. Holton was and remains a really great school; 2. When comparing among Holton and its peer schools, they are much more alike than different; 3. In my experience, random variation among class year cohorts has a much greater effect on the students’ experiences than anything else. Some classes are filled with delightful kids, some are infested by mean girls, and you just never know.

I really hope you a troll and not a Holton parent. (For the record, I couldn’t care less about the skirt length.)

What posters are hitting on is the deflecting, denial and justifications most Holton parents have displayed when issues are raised about the school. Any post re issues at other schools, parents often agree. The insistence that this isn’t an issue is silly, and isn’t helping your cause.

Clearly the administration hasn’t bothered to enforce the rule re skirt length- they should. This has been going on for years. Many in and out of the school community have noticed. Enforce the rule!

Different posters. I don’t call names. Whatever you think, it’s just your opinion.

Different Holton parent. I couldn’t care less about skirt length. Clearly, we have different opinions, which is completely fine. But these are opinions, not facts.

With statements like the ones above, you are just reinforcing the NCS mean girl stereotype.

I’m sorry, I don’t think you understand what it means to be a “mean girl.” You could have used NCS. I said, don’t believe gossip, NCS is often maligned on here, it’s a good school, Holton is a good school, the skirts are ridiculous. That’s not meanie boo boo. Those are simple facts.

That’s an opinion.

Have you seen them? It’s not. It’s a simple fact. They are clown like.

Merriam-Webster is your friend.

This makes no sense. I am aware of the difference between a fact and an opinion. No reasonable person could have an opinion that the skirts are normal school attire. So, ergo, not an opinion.

Thousands of people disagree with you in the DMV alone. Reasonable people can differ on matters of opinion, but not on matters of fact.

You can look it up.

Hopefully, your kid’s school offers a logic class.
