I’m on a flight to Denver right now. All good so far, we are supposed to arrive early. My return tomorrow may be another story! But I am on a completely full widebody planes so my guess is that United will cancel smaller planes before the 400 passenger planes. I have a trip next week too but it’s only a 5 hour drive so that’s my backup plan.

NP. I don't think the PP was saying everything is fine, just that they didn't encounter the long lines and flight delays they were anticipating.

Those aren't going to be people who were required to work.

Imagine the financial life as to the airlines. They will not be able to rebook most of the holiday travelers

I am 1000% both sides will not want to be blamed for the debacle that will be the travel nightmare of the last 50 years should the shutdown continue by Thanksgiving.

I strongly almost certainly suggest the govt will reopen by that week. My sense is it will likely be resolved even bb end of next wk. they have already started considering what it'll take this week and with the new FAA alert of impending delays, I'm sure they will move quickly to prevent more panic. Most people have secured travel plans esp flying. If you haven't the fares will be a nightmare too!

I think anyone planning travel over thanksgiving is a fool. The government will not be opening this year. Air travel is going to be insane, and driving by car is what everyone will do...thus making traffic insane.

I'm glad I already have my meal planning done and most of the mains stashed in the freezer. I predict more chaos.

+1. I'm not a government worker but the apathy over this shutdown by the average American is insane.

We aren’t apathetic. I don’t want my premiums skyrocketing. That will affect me more than the government staying closed. Feds have cushy insurance so they don’t care if others get screwed on insurance.

Go read Reddit. Do you realize how many Feds have been trying to hold the line after 11 months of being treated like garbage and now missing pay for over a month? Most of us are still showing up and holding strong because we believe in affordable healthcare and the mission of our agencies. You’ve got employees without a paycheck still making sure social security checks go out on time and that veterans get their disability. FAA agents are showing up to investigate the UPS plane crash. Medicaid payments are still being made. Your food and drugs and being inspected.

Here in northern Va many fed employees voted as part of the blue wave. And I know a lot of us were at No Kings. It’s honestly disheartening to read posts from people who don’t seem to care about us even though we care about the public. Congress is willing to use us as pawns and apparently a sizable portion of the public is fine with us working indefinitely without pay so long as their lives are not inconvenienced.

Also our insurance isn’t all that cushy. The basic BCBS plan I’m on just more than doubled the copay to $425 for an ER visit. Drug coverage is dropping. Premiums going up at the highest rate ever while pay is going up 1% (if lucky and Trump approves).

Trust me, no regular person (fed or nonfed) is doing great right now in Trump’s America. Feds are not the ones who don’t care if people get screwed.

Huh? As if Feds dont have family members like retired elderly parents who could see their premiums skyrocket....

No place like home for the holidays (talking about traffic for Thanksgiving travel) was written in 1954. I think people have long traveled for hours to a full day — although when they were doing so by horse or on foot of course they weren’t going so far. I think people have a mental limit of how far they will travel to see family and as technology develops, the mileage expands but not the time.

Yes they will get paid after the government reopens in the meantime they still have to pay for daycare they still have to pay for food and gas and rent or mortgage and utilities. Meanwhile the Antoinettes of this world just pitter on
