There is some groups that is not affected at all by this kind of economy, they are even getting richer..(doctors, lawyers, and everyone who check their portfolio up $87k in a day …. especially here in northern virginia, they (and their kids) are the ones who still hanging around at Tyson Galleria and filling fancy restaurants.

Majority, the rest of us are just not…

Restaurants are definitely struggling. If you see they are packed it is rare.
I do side gig food deliveries, in and out alot of food places and I can tell how different it is now than like a year ago… and lately the trend is worse…

Not a fed but I'm always amazed whenever my family goes out to eat that restaurants are so packed and so pricy. We maybe go out to eat 4x per year so for us it's a rare treat but it seems many people do it all the time. Sounds like some much needed belt-tightening is happening.

Definitely seeing restaurants affected. We are retired and eat out about twice a week. We are noting the change. At a well known restaurant our waiter was sitting around (yep) and was really glad to see us (oh, I'm glad you are back!). We saw one restaurant that went out of business in Vienna recently.

Honestly I’m wondering if the economy is going to get so bad that we are going to see outward migration.

I am an essential fed with a very safe job series. I am actively trying to transfer to Europe or Japan.

I am not directly affected, DH and I still have our private sector jobs - but I'm learning and will tell my kids not to be dependent on the federal govt.

We are both federal contractors. Companies are furloughing and laying people off. We put off hiring a contractor to do some work on our house. I can't imagine it isn't having an impact. America is a disgrace. All of the congress should be fired and replaced with regular people who actually want to govern.

We see feds with Tesla’s and Cyber trucks though

Are you aware that some feds are married to people in the private sector, and that is why they have money? For example, federal government lawyers may have a spouse at a firm.

As a furloughed fed...not sure these are my peers you're seeing. I've never seen a Rivian in our parking lot. Hasn't hit most of the contractors I know so far.

I assumed this was related to Thanksgiving travel- flights, hotels, gas/tolls. If it’s the meal itself, I agree.

I took early retirement from the govt, so the shutdown hasn’t affected my budget directly.

My teacher friends tell me that the sub shortages of previous years are over. There’s now a surplus of subs to cover classes.
