The DOD/DOW is one of the most wasteful/fraud filled branches of our government. They have never passed a financial audit. So who knows where the money goes.

Housing prices are most correlated with the stock market and how the economy is doing. So you should hope for an economic crash if you want more affordable housing. The problem tends to be that when economic crashes happen, all the people who vowed to buy when prices stabilized or came down suddenly become fearful of buying themselves.

Virginia is a little better off since it embraced large tech corporations and data centers. Still, 60% of Fairfax County residents are employed by the federal government one way or another. More diversification is necessary to avoid becoming a vassal of the federal hegemony.
