My theory is that he had some sort of temp status with a work authorization and then he lost it along the way but he was already employed so they didn’t re check

She is the chair of the school board who hired him. And is now running for US Senate.
Oh, you're right:
Des Moines School Board Chair Jackie Norris told reporters Monday that Roberts had been shortlisted by headhunters who conducted a criminal-background check. “There was nothing in the information that was given to us to allude to any question about his citizenship,” Norris said.
Norris previously served as White House chief of staff to first lady Michelle Obama, according to the school board website.

I know Jackie and she is telling the truth. I haven’t talked to her in a decade, but I know her from Lafayette and she’s a very upstanding person who is civic minded to the core. Her husband John ran for governor. They run their family with a military precision, her two oldest are in academies. She isn’t sloppy.
She was sloppy with this situation. Lots of red flags but they still hired him. And she has the audacity to tell the public to practice “radical empathy.” Another example of democrats favoring illegal aliens over citizens.
The board apparently knew he did not have his doctorate before they hired him but hired him anyway. Then, continued to refer to him as “Dr. Roberts.” They lied to the citizens of Des Moines.

Crazy and bold makes you wonder how many undocumented are able to also fly under the radar and obtain ivy League degrees, public jobs and even register to vote?
Prior gun charges and deportation orders
He was also a dcps employee.
Wow!

Democrats REFUSE to mandate e-verify. Multiple bills have been proposed by republicans but NO democrats support mandating e-verify.
Democrats are dependent on cheap foreign labor. I really dont understand why the party of labor has abandoned labor.

Are you suggesting she's not sloppy but rather a "detail" person who approved his hiring anyway?

He took teaching and administrative jobs in DC and Maryland schools that should have gone to eligible citizens or residents.
He likely took a college seat at an Ivy League school along with scholarships or subsidies that were meant for legal students.
Taxpayer money paid his salary and benefits for years, diverting funds from qualified workers.
Parents expect role models in schools, not someone with gun charges, deportation orders, and false documents.
Allowing this undermines trust in public education and sets a bad example for children.
Being on Maryland’s voter rolls as a noncitizen raises real concerns about election security.
Even if he never voted, the possibility erodes confidence in the system.
Hiring him put students and staff at risk given his prior criminal history.
It showed clear failures in background checks and verification systems.
Letting it slide signals that breaking immigration, employment, and election laws has no consequences.
So when businessmen literally take thousands of jobs away and make billions of dollars, that is ok because they are citizens, but when this guy has a career in public service, he is taking someone else’s job.
Hmm.
Not the same thing at all.
A US citizen running a business, even if you don’t like how they do it, is still doing it legally. Citizens have the right to own companies, hire, fire, make money, whatever.
This guy wasn’t even supposed to be eligible for the jobs he had. Public school positions are paid with taxpayer money and are reserved for citizens or legal residents. He only got in by lying and ignoring the law.
And on top of that, he had gun charges and deportation orders. That’s not just “making a career in public service,” that’s slipping through the cracks and setting a terrible example for kids.
The problem isn’t just the job. It’s that the whole thing was illegal from the start.
+1 Because he's a liar and a con artist.
