Probably ice hockey. So little ice time available in this area and the sport has gotten pretty popular.

It doesn't matter what the schedule is, someone will gripe.

5 am wouldn't happen here, though. I wouldn't sign my kids up

Guess your kids aren't swimmers or skaters. Yes, there aren't nearly enough fields, but there are far fewer pools and ice rinks. If your kid wants to participate, you get what you get and you don't get upset

You obviously have no clue about sports

An 8 am soccer game isnt my favorite Saturday but its fine. I dislike the 2pm to 7pm time slots, its hard to manage the rest of your day.

LOL and rolling my eyes that OP thinks $50 would magically open more fields!!

I also have a hockey player and 7am ice time is normal unfortunately. We avoid St James because they advertised 730 practices every week. Drive farther for teams with late day practices.

Football season! They don't want to miss the games!

Same. I got to choose a time for orchestra and I picked the earliest time - we can still do birthday parties, family outings (Butler's, etc), get home and have a quiet day. This year soccer is at 1pm and that's pretty much my whole Sunday, plus I miss the early NFL games.

Ice time is more expensive at 'prime' times, i.e. not during the work day, but on the weekend it doesn't really matter. The way it generally works is that a rink is required to provide time slots for their home games. They book large blocks of ice at their rinks to cover these games and turn the time slots over to a league scheduler who slots games into those ice times. Generally little kids play early (they go to bed early), and big kids play later (they wake up later in the day and stay up late).

NP but around me, it’s hockey. Ice time is expensive.

Is it less expensive for 6 am than 2pm slot?

Ice time is scarce. At the rink I know, figure skaters practice from 6-10 am and the hockey players have practice and games from 3 pm to midnight.

Completely agree. Private kiddie club sports is a huge money suck with no long term benefits for the vast majority sucked into this scam.

It's not fun for the people living near the parks, either.

Some of the teams are ok, but some blare music or cheer or whistle loudly.

How dare they make noise and have fun outside.

Our kids do sports because it is healthy to be active.

This is a myth, kids don't need sports for that.

I hate afternoon games and would vastly prefer my kid play at 8 or 9. We just don't do programs where a 7 a.m. show time requires more driving than I'm willing to do or earlier than about a 5:30 wakeup.

But then again, I was a coxswain who got up at 4:30 to leave campus at 4:45 for practice, so I've always been this way.
