+1. There is a street correlation between people who don't clean their own houses and their level of physical activity. These people also don't exercise and when they need to enjoy their money when they retire they instead spend a lot of time between doctor appointments.

There is a whole lot of made up crap in those couple of sentences you managed to put together. Having cleaners come and do the heavy lifting every 2-3 weeks does not equal not cleaning your house. I get more exercise BECAUSE I dont have to scrub toilets and tubs. I have more time to cook healthy meals and do the things I actually enjoy. But you can tell yourself whatever you want if it makes you feel better. Just know that it's a load of crap.

$120 every two weeks for 1000 sq ft. Just had new (3700 sq ft) house deep cleaned, which she did for $450. Hoping to pay $200-$250 for cleanings going forward. We’ll see.

PP paying $280 here and there are usually two folks here for 3 hours so that is six hours total. It's a privately owned service, not a big company, and we actually offered an increase last year from $250/cleaning because they hadn't raised rates in a few years. We aren't exploiting anyone.

DP here. I pay $180 for two ladies/two hours, so $45/hour each (they don’t work for a service) and I feel absolutely fine about that. They come every two weeks.

I pay $40 per hr and round up, and also pay for days I'm out of town. This is affordable for me, and in my own self interest


Why? It's the price she quoted.. She's setting aside one morning a week for me. She's careful, a decent cleaner. and I'm comfortable with her in my home... a young mother in my community working around family members being able to do childcare. If she takes a full time job when her children go to school , I'm hoping she will recommend a friend.

3000 square ft. House - two adults, one cat. No kids or dogs. She charges $250 for a once/month cleaning with two ladies. I recently started giving her $275 due to inflation as she hasn’t raised her rates since she started here in 2020.

That's just under 50 and seems reasonable and probably will keep your cleaners happy and trying to do a good job. My cleaner wanted $75 an hour but that's because she's fast and sloppy and and wants the same amount for less time. I suspect a lot of people on here are actually paying more than they think per hour with all the stories about cleaners leaving early, spending time on the phone in their car, etc.

Why are they "lazy"? If you can afford to hire someone, why not? Sure I can clean my own house, but why? I enjoy not cleaning bathrooms and am helping to employ others---my cleaners are well compensated. Paying for it is such a small part of our monthly expenses.

You may be employing others, keeping them happy, etc but you are still lazy. Just admit it and move on. It’s ok

So I'm guessing you repair your own vehicles, put a new roof on your own house, paint the 3 story house, etc, because you don't want to be lazy? Right?

This thread is full of retirees / empty nesters with grandfathered rates. Bet the cleanings suck but Grandma and Grandpa can’t see or smell well so it doesn’t matter.

There’s no such thing as a grandfathered rate, what a dumb comment. The rates should go up with the cost of living every year and if you can’t keep up you need to clean the house yourself.

If people are happy with their service they aren’t overpaying. There are more posters that seem to be underpaying trying to justify it by saying it’s a simple job.
