Yesterday I popped in to my local convenience store to get coffee on the way to work. As I was leaving, the white man in line behind me had a disagreement with an Asian woman behind the counter and became verbally aggressive ("You people should just go back where you came from" and similar comments on and on). I felt the need to speak up, so I addressed the man with "OK, you've made your point, time to let it go." I wanted to offer some support for the employee, but I didn't want to further escalate the situation. He did lower his voice and just muttered under his breath. I left at that point. I kept thinking about it all day, though, and wondering if there was something more I could have done.

No one ever intervenes so OP, I appreciate that you said something.
It doesn't even matter exactly what you said. It matters that you stood up and said something, and showed support for the woman. It was also wise to not provoke him further, and to protect yourself at the same time.
Thank you.
What sorts of people yell this at you?
Is it only white men?
No, both black and white. Homeless men too LOL
Homeless people don’t count for these purposes. They’re mentally unwell. I’m white and homeless people yell nasty stuff all the time. I don’t take it personally
Not all homeless people are mentally unwell unless you are stretching to include people who would be fine if they took their medication or stayed off alcohol and drugs.

Perpetrator is ALWAYS a “older white man”
Victim is ALWAYS a younger Asian woman
ALWAYS some variation of “you need to go back to wherever you came from”
Sometimes the OP is the eyewitness, sometimes the OP is the victim herself
At no time has the antagonist ever been described as a race other than white. Never.
If you follow DCUM long enough, you’ll spot these threads every few months. This is at least the sixth one I can recall. There was another one in the past year where the OP was outraged that a white male stranger said “Xi Xi” to her daughter as a greeting, and had the unmitigated gall to assume they were Chinese. Or the one about the “homeless man on north Capitol street” who angrily yelled racial epithets at the OP while panhandling and then followed her while continuing to scream at her. He of course was a “white man with a MAGA hat”…..
Yeah, this is all so tiresome.
Find a new schtick, OP. This one is worn out.
Agree. The OP is the same, tiresome, concern-troll who keeps posting similar-themed garbage every few weeks or months.

Anonymous wrote:The only people I’ve EVER seen say racist things to asian people are black guys in carry outs and corner stores or liquor stores in ratchet neighborhoods.
I spend a lot of time in these neighborhoods working with clients, and I regularly visit these types of stores. Most are operated by Korean or Vietnamese people who have the place as a family business. And I have personally witnessed a LOT of verbal abuse directed at them exclusively from black males.
While I think the OP of this thread is making the whole thing up, I DO know stuff like this happens, because I’ve witnessed it personally. But it’s not white guys doing it. It’s black guys.
We should at least have an honest conversation about that.
