My son is a freshman on XC. On average they are running about 5 miles a day - hardly “hanging out”! I’d like to see the football team try that!

Well anyone can run if you are skinny

Anyone at all can run! The good runners do tend to be pretty fit, including because they run a lot.

Anyone can run but not everyone can run FAST

You have no idea what you are talking about. Dude? What are you? A 9th grader? I chuckle - the big deal today are double threshold workouts. We did them - just a different name. Are you mentally limited? What are your achievements?

My coaching friend - an All American at Georgetown - thinks super shoes are such a bonus in training. He is amazed at recovery times. This is one area where my experience is not relevant because I never have trained in them. One can draw a baseline though. A really tough and intense interval workout at a high level could leave one really tired for days. A great lesson for high school coaching because we feared overtraining.

But you know better of course.

I said people think XC is just some hangout spot when it is actually hard. My daughter is running 40 miles per week for XC.

But you don’t have to run that much to be a contributing member to a girls hs xc team.

40 mpw is high mileage for a high school female runner.
