YMCA lifegaurd is a year round job that hires at 15. Pretty stable.

I worked in restaurants hostessing and waiting tables starting at 15. I worked in mom and pop diners (breakfast/lunch places), where it was mostly families that would in. But the kitchen staff were lewd disgusting. Same goes for other restaurants I worked in. The patrons aren’t the problem- it’s the other staff

I liked being a barista. Great job if you are a morning person.

It’s harder to get this job at busy locations because they give benefits and pay decently but our neighbor’s kid loved working at Starbucks over the summer. Nice patrons and regulars, nice coworkers. No harassment, pressure on underage kids to serve alcohol, etc. and managers keep a close eye on things.

Not to mention my DD’s restaurant job is way better and higher paid than working for Starbucks, a gift shop or doing yard work?!? She doesn’t mind babysitting but the jobs were too irregular and inconsistent so she’d go weeks or sometimes months without much work.

Sex work would pay well too, but not about to ask DD to do that.

This is the foundation of what we’re getting wrong. PP says “not about to ask DD to do that.” DD is 16. She should be finding her own job that is found and acquired by her. Parents should have some input because the logistics impacts parents too but this is the kid’s lead. Obviously nothing illegal like sex work.
