You could suggest Sherry I guess, but Sharon was never a hip name. You're kind of delusional.

She’ll be talked about at school. Kids are rough.

OP, if you thought that Sharon was a hip name to give your child in 2010, you have really bad judgement. That name was not hip then and is not hip today.

Sharon is a nice name, but my relationship with my kid is more important than calling my kid a specific name.

Good.lord THIS!

90% of the problems in families is the failure to put the Relationship as the first goal above all else.

Hyman was my great-grandpa's name. Not joking.

She'll grow out of it, OP. Don't fret.

Haha. Op let it go. This is her starting to separate from you and dad and assert her own identity. And all things considered this is a very benign rebellion and she picked a relatively sane name.
This is not a battle you want to fight. Save it for something else earn yourself some currency.

However, she's now saying that it's a "middle-aged white woman name" (keep in mind that she is white) and demanding that we call her "Cherry". She's already got her friends to call her Cherry and plans to start high school introducing herself to classmates and teachers as Cherry. I'm not a fan. In addition to the inappropriate associations that cherries can have, Sharon is her name. It's a wonderful, lovely name, and now she's saying that she wants to be called a piece of fruit? I don't get it. WWYD?

Tell her that nicknames have to be bestowed by others and EARNED, they CANNOT be made up by the person themselves. People make fun of people who do that.

You sound like such a 2012 Tumblr teen lm freaking aooooooo

Say what?
