DD definitely would have applied to Michigan ED. Ended up waitlisted and got into UCLA and didn’t stay on any waitlists. Really had wanted Mich but loves UCLA and never looked back. Maybe a blessing in disguise.

Don’t disagree with you, but the ones that have a legit shot won’t settle.

I know very few kids at our private that have Michigan as a first choice, nearly all see it as a nice fallback option.

This is great. Now kids can indicate it's their first choice. So many OOS EA kids shut out this year who really wanted to attend.

I wouldn't be shocked if they take the UChicago route and give ED a >35% admit rate to heavily incentivize high-stats and unhooked applicants to apply early.

I can’t imagine that figure is correct for OOS students.

Michigan doesn’t publish EA acceptance rates. This poster is making stuff up.

Maybe EA acceptance rates will go down?

Like Chicago? 40% ED acceptance rate + 2% EA acceptance rate? Then UM can claim their EA+ED acceptance rate is under 10%?

All of these factors may contribute to budget concerns.

Affirmative action has been "outlawed " in Michigan for decades. Irrelevant to the change to ED.

No. UM is a safety for ivy kids. They won’t ED UM if they have the chops for ivy.

This isn’t your father’s Ivy League. They have lost some shine due to antisemitism, protests, & plagiarism scandals. Combine that with some students wanting the big football weekends & frat parties and Michigan’s solid academics, & the gap isn’t as big as it once was.

Please look at the CDS for all schools you are applying to. If you need merit and not aid, Michigan will not help you.

Not talking about merit here. I've done the NPC for Michigan and for our very middle class family, Michigan indicated it would offer some institutional grants. Would need to see final numbers though before committing ED.

Um - talk to anyone at top schools on the east coast? This is common knowledge.

Go Blue? Is this a "cheerful" event?
