Dumb and ignorant comment.

+1 PP would beg Elon to chain them to their desk 24/7.

What were the previous benefits?

Seriously? Job security, great benefits, growth opportunities...and knowing that you are serving your country rather than helping some company make money.

Well, there is no more job security since DOGE.

Great benefits? They've been watered down over the years and many private companies now have better. The tiny pension benefit that's a fraction of what it was in the "good old days" is being attacked. Most feds save most of their retirement in a 401k just like everyone else.

DOGE killed most growth opportunity in many agencies.

And, it used to feel good to serve your country. Now, it's been made clear that a large number of Americans hate feds who are trying to help them, and the billionaires in charge also hate us too.

I am advising the younger members of my family to steer clear.

We've had more people voluntarily leave our agency post DOGE and buyout offers than we did during that whole period of time.

When you want to help your fellow citizens and all they want are military raids on immigrants and not services for citizens, a lot of morale gets wiped out.

Let’s just add in the 640,000 USPS workers, 990,000 public school administrators, 3,200,000 public school teachers, 1,320,000 active military and 16,200,000 veterans while we’re at it.

Go Government!

Walter Reed medical center employees are worthless?

1 in 6 federal employees are in medical and nursing positions.

Also the federal government has (or had) 300,000 people in STEM fields - physical scientists, biologists, chemists, engineers, toxicologists, epidemiologists, microbiologists and so on supporting NASA, DOE, USGS, DOD, NIH, EPA and other agencies

Some great talent can stay and hopefully ride it out; to rebuild at a later time. Thank G-d for them. But nobody worth their salt will ever go apply to work for the Feds. Even if you get a stable administration at a later time, America has proven we will just elect a psycho on a whim.

The best hope for recruiting future talent is to sweep the Republicans out of office and undo all of the damage Trump has done.

Obviously that's going to happen in next fycle or the next after.

Unless they are over 40 and private industry won't hire them. It's why my dh ended up as a fed after he was laid off.

He would not recommend a career as a fed for anyone after 2025.

Yep. Job security and stability was a huge and unquestioned benefit, until DOGE.
Working for the mission, not to prioritize third party profit at the expense of good work itself.
Clear pathway for job advancement and clear (and enforced) guidelines against discrimination.
Before 1987, the retirement plan was amazing. It changed in 1987, and has been chipped away at twice since then, but it was still better than much in the private sector.
