Ludlow has a large number of black teachers and they’re really good about shutting down that entitled and racist nonsense from those parents. Also consider JO Wilson. JO Wilson is led by a strong black man who doesn’t let that entitled racist nonsense happen at his school.
"Everyone is disagrees with me is racist".
And people wonder why Trump won. lol.
And comments like these prove my point about the attitudes that exist at Maury. I’m sorry but families ostracizing and being unwelcoming to black families has nothing to do with “disagreeing with someone”. It’s very telling when you try to downplay the experiences of black people. You aren’t black so you can’t relate. Period. Yeah, clock it.
Exhausting. Please stop before Vance wins.

Literally, yes. I’m not PP but the lowkey racism of many in the Maury community was on full public display with the debate over the “woke school pairing” (as it was described just above!)

Is that an unfair stereotype/hasty view from the outside?
Where did you get that impression?
Different parent, inbounds for Maury and I agree. Really unfriendly group of people. I’m glad we went elsewhere.
I live in the general neighborhood (but IB for/with kids at L-T) and I cannot imagine turning down Maury as an IB family for another public option... Maybe if I was really set on immersion? Insane to turn down a quality local school because you anecdotally think some parents (your neighbors??) are unfriendly.
In general, I find my Hill neighbors really nice and friendly, especially those with kids in any of the local DCPSes. We have loads of friends at Maury via local kids' activities. The friendly vibe is part of why so many people live and stay on the Hill even when it complicates school options later on. Sorry you've had such a different experience, but I think it's pretty abnormal!
Nah this is very par for the course if you’re not white. Also I don’t need to hear how you’re “considering” eastern and you’re “committed” to Eliot. I’m not sending my kids there either.
Non-white IB families turn down Maury routinely? For where? (I am also not sending my kids to EH or Eastern, but the same considerations absolutely do not apply to Maury which has fabulous test scores and a large group of high achieving students.)
Yup, the families at Maury are lowkey very unfriendly and unwelcoming to black families. This is exactly why the number of black students continues to plummet every year. The white families make black families feel like they shouldn’t be in the school or in the neighborhood. Mind you, the neighborhood surrounding Maury was predominately black until 2012. Clock it.

This is very helpful as a black parent. Because that sort of attitude passes on through their kids and lo and behold, your child is singled out and that is when the insecurities start to fester. Thank you.
You’re very welcome! Don’t listen to these people on this board. The majority of them have the attitudes I described in my last post. I’m a black dad and I almost ended up getting arrested after I ended up going off on two of those parents about how their child was treating my son. Luckily the responding officers were black and didn’t say anything lol. They run their mouths on forums like these but forget that real life and online are two totally different things. And these are the same people who pretend to be “liberal” and accepting, but treat black families like they don’t belong. And then when a black parent goes off and says something, the black parent is the problem. Nope, the racist entitled performative “others” are the real problem. Don’t let their “Everybody Belongs” yard signs fool you. They’re fine with diversity as long as the diversity isn’t in their neighborhood or school. I want one of them to try to prove me wrong. I’ll wait…..
This is why we ended up in Bowie.
