Oh honey, if you weren't feeling defensive about something you wouldn't feel the need to post. Go attend to your own marriage or do some meaningful self reflection to see why you are so triggered about this.

So, tell me people who use a definition other than “mother who is single”, what evidence do you have to back up your definition?


In my opinion, a single mother is someone on her own with no ex husband, no help whatsoever and is 100% monetarily and physically responsible for child. She is on her own.

Divorced parents have been referring to themselves as single for decades. It's a little disingenuous if there is at least child support and shared visitation involved. I think people use the term for a bit of sympathy.

At some point in the last 10 to 15 years divorced Moms/divorced dads didn’t like the stigma of the word “divorced” so they started using “single”, which historically meant no support at all. Literally a single parent.
