At our school they don't play, but it's not like they are sitting and doing computer games. For example, my kindergartener chose an animal and used the computer to do research and then wrote and illustrated a short essay about the animal -- with a sentence and picture about habitat, food, etc.
I just wish those poor little 5 and 6 year olds got more play in their day, and this "extra" 30 minutes of FIT/WIN time would be a great time to do it since my understanding is that it's hard to fit into CKLA and Eureka. IMO they could use some pure free play, but I'm also fine with math-based or literacy-based play "centers"... there are lots of great ways for little kids to learn through play.

At our school yes - they do things like choose an animal, look up some facts on pebble go, and then draw a picture of the animal and write a fact or two about it.

Anonymous wrote:In our school we have FIT and kids are assigned one place to go for the entire quarter. My kid went with her compacted math teacher to do math writing (I.e. answering the annoy wing explain your thinking Eureka problems) while her ELA teacher did the CKLA fluency supplement.
