Exactly this. It's ridiculous to think a 3.5 couldn't get into VT.
Or JMU.

Not really. Lots of overlap between JMU and VT students academically.
You are trolling, right?

So far as I’m concerned, when the Big Three (UVA, Tech, W&M) are out, VCU is the way to go.
There is no "Big Three." You made that up.
Yes I did. I’m talking about from a competitive admissions standpoint. There’s those three, then everyone else.
VT has long accepted the majority of applicants.
Maybe 15 years ago...

You really need to go away.
Why? It's true.
Because you continue to be deliberately obtuse and contrarian.
UVA overlaps with Duke in terms of SATs. That doesn’t mean that Duke isn’t more selective than UVA. Or are you now going to insist that it isn’t?
I never said VT wasn't more selective than JMU. I said that a 1360 wasn't functionally different from a 1260 and that the two schools' student bodies were extremely similar. In VA, JMU's student body is most similar to VT, and VT's student body is most similar to JMU.
Well isn’t that special?
We’re talking about VA options for a kid with a 3.5. Tech isn’t one of them. So, fine, make your point that the schools have similar feels. But don’t deliberately cloud the waters and antagonize time again with your one sentence cryptic responses essentially poo pooing the difference between the two.
In other words, stay on track bro.
Virginia Tech is absolutely in the cards for a 3.5 GPA.

State schools in other states exist to serve the students of those states -- with some exceptions, they are not in the business of discounting tuition for outsiders. On the flip side, many private schools have the funds and flexibility to offer merit awards.
It kills me when parents insist their kid only apply in-state "because that's the most affordable option." Not always.
