Women have to go above and beyond to be recognized. Plus, coaching does not pay a lot. If the women are older, married, with kids, they are most likley in charge of family duties. We have seen a lot of married with kids male coaches who can get off their 8-4 job and be at the fields at 5pm to coach because their wives are in charge of everything else. How many dads would be ok with their wives not being home during the evenings, tournament and away games on the weekends?
My college aged daughter has been coaching rec soccer for four seasons now (she started in HS), and she loves doing it. In no world is she considering going into coaching after she graduates.
More men need to parent. The end.
Sounds like more women need to be more selective about the quality of man they let impregnate them. Plenty of men out here doing our fair share of parenting. Pick better mates or deal with the consequences. The end.

Who gives a rats behind what society says? Who are these people saying what you have to be in life anyways?
As far as I can see, in society you are only expected to 1) find a way to earn income to to sustain yourself, and 2) take care of those who you brought into this world. That's it. If you want to be a doctor or a housewife, you're free to make that choice provided you can cover those 2 items with your arrangement.
I've never met a man who wants to be a nurse or work at a daycare, but wont because of society holding them down. I've never met a woman who wants to fix cars but won't because of society either. The society blame is such a cop out. People do what they want provided they have 1) time and 2) money to pursue it. Same goes for coaching. It takes time, training, and commitment, meanwhile you are constantly dealing with whiny parents who complain about everything you do. Maybe that's just something that doesn't appeal to women as much as men, like working on an oil rig or in a coal mine.
Important part here is “As far as I can see”. Just because you don’t see things happening or it’s not your experience doesn’t mean they aren’t happening. You are obviously a man and not part of a marginalized group. There are many people who are pushed toward or discouraged from doing all sorts of things by society.
Yes I have been told this for years with no examples to back it up. What marginalized groups are being discouraged by society and how so? And also please make sure to include discouragement that is happening by people outside of that same group.
The examples are everywhere you just don’t want to see them. In so many fields there is nothing close to proper representation. CEO’s and board members, medicine, bankers, law makers, venture capital investments. If there were no barriers then we would see representation close to the population of those groups. There should be close to 50% of CEO’s and board members as women, 12% black, etc. Unless you believe these groups are inferior or less capable, there has to be something societal, some kind of barrier even if it isn’t overt or intentional.
None of this is evidence that SOCIETY is discouraging them. First off, there is a mountain of evidence that males and females have biological differences that do impact behavior and life choices in a major way. Second, there are also cultural differences that affect behavior and life choices of other ethnicities and so on. What one's specific culture does is not a reflection of society at large since we are a melting pot of many cultures. The western American culture that most are familiar with does NOT discourage people from seeking opportunities regardless of their gender, race, or ethnicity. Where is your proof or examples of active discouragement BY SOCIETY?
There's plenty of evidence in this thread, starting with the comment about early in the thread barefoot and pregnant.
What are you saying, that women make life decisions based on a few opinions on a message board?!?
No it's representative of a sentiment of many in our society that LIMITS what some believe women can achieve or what roles they could have based on gender stereotyping. It's only in the last 100 years that women became more empowered via the right to vote and have additional control over when they had children via birth control and abortion. Heck, it wasn't even 50 years ago before women had certain financial rights, like having their own credit card OR even fight for their country as a soldier. Even now, there's the biggest push since many of these reforms were achieved to undo them.
If you believe some members of society having certain beliefs about gender roles causes women to suppress themselves, then, then why do women outnumber men in college admissions?
There are more women applicants. Men are not well suited for college and apply in smaller numbers. Men are better suited for physical tasks and have less use for education. Natural selection.
This is as much BS as gender stereotyping women.
