Yes, if you understand that 90% of development starts at home.

The dirty little secret is that NO CLUB will develop your player outside of what you do away from the club.

If you are ignorant at soccer, master the Coercer 1v1 skill moves over a two year period and you will have a top ECNL/GA/MLS Next player. No club can do that. Only the parents and the kid.

Could be lip service, but per recent-ish communications it seems that BSC is trying to set up some consistent guidance across their teams/coaches. I'll believe it when I see it, but who knows what next year brings.

BSC is not dominant anymore and that’s a good thing. Doesn’t mean it’s on its way down. It is still a force to reckon with. I do think it is harder to say what whether they are actually good at developing players as opposed to just having the drawing power to get the best kids (like Dcu academy). There doesn’t seem to be a consistency in the coaching even if they’re supposed to be implementing the same thing. Kind of like Alexandria too.


As a current BSC parent, this is 100% accurate.

There is more market competition diluting the stronghold that BSC once controlled. Not on the way down but the teams are not dominant which is actually good for the entire region.

I still trust the BSC coaches I know more than others in the area but there are a lot of club choices now.

Hard to know which perspective is correct, but I just heard that AS is no longer coaching the 2014 PreE team and that MM is coaching both the 2014 PreE team and Blue team. Some seem to think that AS might have ducked out on coaching a PreE team that will not have the talent one might expect on that team level (because all he cares about is winning and not developing). Others seem to think that maybe there was a shake in another age group and AS was moved to coach that age group. Either way, BSC seems to have really botched things with the 2014 group of girls by even considering have AS coach the team.


Which age group did he move to?

I heard that a good part of his current 2012 players are leaving bc he's not coaching them next year. IMO, as a coach, he's gonna be better than the 2014 E1 /E2, those girls are gonna be in for a surprise.


You heard wrong. Many of the 2012 players refused to stay if he was going to coach them again. LOL. Yeah he has a “winning” record but what he did with that team was horrible. He had 24-26 girls on the roster, when only 18 could suit up. From game to game some of these girls were being told they couldn’t even suit up for their game. Mid season he wanted to push some of them off his team and down to the Blue team. The coach of the Blue team would only accept two, and one who came had the stinkiest attitude about it. The ones who are leaving, are leaving because they were offered spots on the Blue team for next year, not because they are mad AS isn’t coaching them. There is a reason AS lost his top teams, and it’s not because they want to see what he can do with an upcoming Pre E team. LOL. It’s because he’s bad for business. No idea why BSC didn’t just get rid of him altogether. MM would have been a better choice for Pre E (and all of those declines would have likely not occurred).


Well then both of us heard wrong, bc the club forced the 24+ roster, not the coach, they offered too many players thinking “oh some will not take the offer” we’ll be down to 18-20 players and they really didn’t communicate between coaches, there seems to be a lot of miscommunication (silos). New kids showed up after tryouts that were also E2 level, and added them even though they knew the amount of kids on there were already high. They didn’t care. They saw $$$. AS had didn’t seem to have much control over that.

I know parents on the team were not happy, rightly so, it should not be the coach’s fault that he was over rostered, that also happened to one of the RL team last year, can’t remember, but might be 2011 E2 (coached by MT). These coached don’t want to be in that position where they have to tell their players you can’t suit up this weekend, and even if suited up, might not play the game. Paying $$$ to be on a club and not even play, is just not right. Yes, mid season, he tried moving players down that don’t get much playing time to help them get more playing time on the blue team, however the blue team was also stacked and could only take on 2 more. And kids aren’t gonna be happy when they get moved down, but they should see it as “more playing time” and development. I’d rather my kid play more and get the experience on a lower team then sit on the bench 90% of the time. I think AS tried to be fair about playing time, a huge improvement over their previous year coach, SC. You can’t please everyone, snowflakes parents are gonna melt. I know that players/parent that came from the previous coach, SC, said he was a lot better.

If it’s bad business, then why hasn’t KL, SC from the girls side gone yet? They are the prime example. Oh yeah, bc they are winning. Why do other players flock to get on Bethesda? They want to win, development=win (most of the time) if they are not being developed, I don’t think they’d be winning.

Unless you and your kid experience first hand, best not to bash on any coaches, and even still, you might not know the whole story. Most coaches are coaching bc they want to help develop players and enjoy seeing the development. Parents might not always see it that way, for the most part they are coaching bc they love to do it. I see a lot of people on here bashing coaches, and some defending them. Why are there 2 sides to the story?

huh? not only are they ECNL, but they play in the pre-ECNL North Atlantic league against the exact same clubs that are in U13+ ECNL. It's literally the same thing just a year younger with 9v9 in the fall and 11v11 in the spring. This is very different than some clubs say "pre-whatever at U8"

My daughter was on the first invite list that AS distributed and it didn’t include anyone else from the blue or white teams. But the initial list of invites has since changed dramatically.


A couple of girls from the white team also got initial offers for the Pre ECNL team. It would be odd that only girls from Blue team would, when the white team was the better team despite being ranked as the 5th team.

That’s not accurate, starting at U13 Bethesda has ECNL and ECNL RL. U12 and below the top two teams are called ECNL I and ECNL II, and the 3rd team is called Pre ECNL. If there are 4th/5th teams they use colors: Blue, White, etc.
