7% is not enough? That is what was in proposed budget presented.

They aren’t getting the 7%

Saw Reid presented in school board 7% for all union and 6% if not union. Are there no teachers in union?

Wrong information. Please at least read this thread before you post.

Mondays were billed as being a one time thing because of training that had to happen for the VA literacy act.

Most of the teachers worked from home and had parent meetings those afternoons

That’s not true.

and yet I’m sure this lie will spread on DCUM

I believe teachers are getting a 6% raise, the least they deserve IMO. I have no problem with them getting this extra planning time, but the school board needs to put out dates ASAP and have a plan for moving forward that is predictable and on the calendars for subsequent years so parents can plan.

No teachers in FCPS have worked from home on any early release Mondays. Someone is spreading a lie or woefully confused.

So there will be early release every single Wednesday? But kids will have the ability to stay at school if they need to? Is that correct?

Will they be announcing this the Friday after the last day of school again like last year?

They are related it at least being billed as related by the school system. We had someone do a presentation at our school in which they said Benchmark was one of I think 7 or so curriculums VA counties could choose from to fulfill requirements of the Act. --parent, not a teacher

I thought that 7 Mondays this year were exception for the new benchmark training that other Va school districts did over 3 days and didn’t take away from in-class student time? If was for that training, what is justification to continue and let alone, move to middle of week? Or do I have bad information and Reid did not say this?

The half day Mondays were NEVER related to Benchmark training.

Here you go, from a September email, emphasis added:

Limited Early Release Mondays for Elementary Schools: Steering Committee Update
As a reminder, FCPS elementary schools will have limited early release Mondays during the upcoming school year. The goal is to provide elementary teachers additional time to meet new professional development requirements for the Virginia Literacy Act.

You just proved PP’s point. The Monday early release days were NOT about Benchmark. The trainings related to the VA Literacy Act are NOT Benchmark trainings. They are modules created by the state that take 27 hours to complete.

Sorry yes, actually I knew that and wasn't thinking. I meant to be responding to the other PP which conflated Benchmark ("I thought that 7 Mondays this year were exception for the new benchmark training that other Va school districts did over 3 days and didn’t take away from in-class student time? If was for that training, what is justification to continue and let alone, move to middle of week?"). However, the PP's complaint is even more applicable given that the half days were said to be to complete the modules, which won't have to be done every year.

Half random Mondays were a complete waste a
Of time at our school. 1/3 of the parents just keep their kids home. The ones that go to school are there for 3.5hrs. They don’t even learn on these days. Zero. They have two 25 minute recess and a 25minute lunch around 10:45 am and a snack at 9:45. Then school family and iPads. It’s insane you call this a school day.

That is clearly school dependent. Our ER Monday schedule was 30 min specials, Math, Sci/SS and then LA. No Recess, no intervention, no morning meeting. Blocks shortened but learning absolutely happening.
