NP. I assume teachers also have a good idea of who are in gangs etc. I don’t think it’s reasonable for teachers who are unarmed to be expected to break up knife fights.


I don't expect a teacher to get in the middle, but I would expect him to yell at the kids to "cut it out!" I'd also expect more than just ambling across the hallway.


That would draw attention to the teacher who could get stabbed. Still not happening.

At Oakton HS (one of the best in the county), a boy ran his car into a group of girls. Violence happens everywhere.

+1 Teachers are told over and over not to touch kids. I know two elementary school teachers who stopped young kids from running out of the building and ended up on admin leave with a CPS investigation.

I wouldn't intervene either. That's for the SRO.

Just curiosity here. Have the folks who are upset about this do-nothing teacher seen the Adolescence mini-series on Netflix? I wonder what you think about those teachers in the UK? Crazy way to portray them.

Intervening and stopping are two different things. I would stop and from safe distance yell things to try to help until SRO gets there. Or be there to apply pressure when fight disperses.

I’m a teacher and I wouldn’t stop. I stopped a fight once between 5th grade boys and was punched in the ear. I had ringing in my ear for nearly two weeks.

I went to HS where there was a traumatic event and our parents were also told they couldn’t come get us. It is still a traumatic event in my life and I am bewildered as to why my parents listened to the school. I have told my kids there is no circumstance that I would leave h on the building like my parents did. This make me raging mad that this is still happening today. And the excuse is lunch!

The only thing is in the video I saw, when the 3rd kid ran up and got involved, red sweatshirt (the stabbing victim) and the 3rd kid (not the kid who was on the ground getting punched/kicked by red sweatshirt) fought for a little and then red sweatshirt ran away down a hallway. I’m assuming he got stabbed after that because the shot of him lying bloody on the floor was in a hallway. So if he was running away, hard for the stabber to claim self defense.

Give it a rest. The email from the school was 45 mins after the incident. Hope the ambulances were gone by then.

Reid was on the news saying they wanted the kids to have a calm lunch. No way FCPS should have been able to keep kids if it was not in a lock down situation. If my kid saw that incident, I would absolutely allow them to leave school.

No “stop”, no calls out for the SRO or anyone else. It’s a male teacher, with a mustache and large belly, it’s definitely a teacher.

Then when the video shows the student who is stabbed there is one, ONLY one adult standing there and he’s just yelling “ambulance”. He’s not kneeling down to see if kid is alive, or ok, or applying pressure to stop the bleeding. It’s not even clear who he’s talking to, all the kids walking past? I have not and won’t watch the video. I work at a different HS and we have been telling you, the cell phone ban is not enforceable and a joke. Parents of DCUM don’t believe us and keep telling us better ways it can be enforced. Come work in schools. -hs teacher

Yeah, and Reid's email touted the text-to-tip program. If only there were a reply to all function so I could ask her how my kid can text their tipline when his phone is inside the Yondr pouch.
