Yes, I have done this when trash day doesn't coincide with a vacation, and I can't have food sitting out in the summer. I would never do it regularly, and now generally plan ahead (e.g., clean out fridge days before, etc.). Never in a public park though.

The apartment dumpster is private- why do you think that’s better?

Do people realize that waste companies charge by the weight of the dumpster? So while one person throwing one bag in an apartment complex dumpster isn't going to be an issue, the reason why you don't do it is because you aren't the one paying for it to be removed.

Normal people would freeze the carcass and toss it the following week.

Or - what i do - is make stock from the carcass. If you boil it for 10 hours, it won't smell AND you have great stock for your next soup.

Illegal is the word I would choose.

I feel like it’s wrong, but I’ve done something similar. Had a rotisserie chicken carcass in the trash the day the trash had already been.
I took the half bag of trash and thru it in a dumpster behind the rec center near us.
It was a one time thing and I’m otherwise a good person lol.

I take mine to the transfer station. That's where the trash collectors take it. And there is a public area to dump your trash.

When you dump it in commercial dumpsters, apartment complexes, parks, etc, someone else is paying for that.

I think it is even ruder to take your garbage to an apartment complex and dump it in their dumpster!
Doing so is illegal since you are not a resident there and have zero right to utilize the trash facilities there.
The management is paying for the trash pickup services on behalf of its tenants >> not the public.

The apartment dumpsters are not a free for all!
I cannot believe people think this is an acceptable manner to go on private property and unload personal rubbish!!?

Perhaps the lady was sitting directly by the trash 🚮 can & could smell your garbage?
Especially if it was warm out and/or there were a lot of flies + the trash can was already full?

Why do you think it’s ok to inflict your stinky trash o apartment dwellers? Now you’re compounding the original problem by trespassing on private property. You don’t know when their trash is picked up, and it’s just as offensive as stuffing it in your neighbor’s trash.

I never rescue my garbage cans from garbage. I'm fine with the inside of my garbage bins smelling like garbage. So I think it's weird but not disgusting. I'd assume you'd been doing trash pickup at the park and were using a bin when you were done.
