I think the idea is that it’s a different vibe when you’re by the pool in March at UGA and it’s still snowing in Ohio. Sure, you can have fun on an Alaskan cruise but that’s different from fun on a cruise to the Caribbean.

What if you prefer snowball fights to swimming?

I was there in January and walked by about 300-400 students having an impromptu snowball fight. Also saw sledding on trays.

And Columbus has Short North right next to the campus. I can’t imagine a better shopping/restaurant district than that.

I just don’t get the “fun”

I don't think you've been to OSU and experienced it. Yes, OSU is in a city but it is very much a vibrant and energetic college town:

This doesn’t matter that much. He doesn’t need to get a job in Atlanta just bc he went to UGA or get a job in Ohio just because he went to ohio state. Both schools are nationally well known and he will be able to get a job anywhere he wants if he’s a good candidate.

Crime is a huge problem at OSU. The dorms are average. Student life involves really having to advocate for yourself which is pretty much the same at UGA but their are good oppurtunities. UGA will be a more pleasent experience if they want a college town experience.

I agree with the posters making the distinction between large city and small college town. Personally, Athens is one of my favorite college towns I’ve visited.

My son looked at Georgia, liked the school, but flying home via Atlanta after visiting made him rethink the decision.

Columbus is a big city but feels smaller than it is. Probably because everyone is so genuinely nice.

There both t40s so ranking is insignificant in this case. OSU is gonna be less fun in a more chill Midwistern city, but UGA will be a more hotter/party vibe in the South. Visit both and he can see which vibe he likes better.

Both are great. One consideration is that Athens is about an hour from Atlanta while Ohio State is in the heart of Columbia. But that’s about individual preference.

Yup, PP here. My daughter and I were super impressed. Beautiful campus and so much stuff to do right there on High Street. Also just a 15 minute uber to the airport (or a 5.5 hr drive from the DMV). Complete opposite of our experience visiting another school (not UGA) a few days before that. I won't mention the name since it's one of the schools loved by so many here on DCUM!

How many times do people have to explain that the difference in ranking is insignificant? If you actually believe that matters then nobody should listen to your opinion because you’re either confused or being dense on purpose.
