I wouldn’t be shocked if a school like Friends Community has a low enrollment year or a few because of the federal upheaval. Can they weather it, especially on the heels of COVID? I don’t know anything about their debt situation, tbh, but it took more than a few years of low enrollment to do this to Sandy Springs.

Hopefully it will help some of the Sandy Springs families if FCS and others had a light year or people pulling out as RIFs continue.

We were at SSFS in the past as well as another private school. Switching to MCPS has been great for our kids. The academics and support have been much stronger, the resources more extensive, and it is a relief to work with educational professionals.

How were the supports stronger? We’re not at SSFS but kid in 7th at a different private and the small class sizes have been amazing for her ( ADHD) my concerns at mcps are larger classes and kids with more SN, overwhelmed teachers?

Someone posted on the other thread about doing dual enrollment, a great idea for rising 11th or 12th. I wonder if parents could set up some kind of coop where kids get together for social stuff, and do the classes there.

Reading tea leaves from the waitlist threads, Burke has more spots open than Field, but Field is expanding, so maybe they’d absorb students now.

Avoid Mater Amoris for middle school (7th and 8th)—they have had many issues trying to grow despite what they will tell you on the tour. Very few kids are rising up from 6th to continue in the middle school program, and some of the current kids are leaving.

Friends Meeting School in Ijamsville for those who live more northwest of SSFS (it could work if you live in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area).

Nice school! Someone said it was run down but I don't know what they are talking about. It is nice with a beautiful campus including a farm. Supportive environment. Low enrollment so I think they will have space.
