This is BS. The great thing about this sport is it really is empirical and the times are readily available. Spent two minutes looking it up: went to meet mobile to see who swam for York at the Winter Classic and then compared to the rankings on swimcloud for York filtered by age group to see who was highest rated and then compared to the roster on mynvsl to see the Tuckahoe list. Results are that this post is full of crap. No swimmer got passed over so a Tuckahoe kid could swim who didn't earn it.
If your kid didn't get to swim I understand you may be looking for other reasons to rationalize it, but don't spread your hatred here with thin allegations.

York parent here, and not a Tuckahoe member. I think Coach T was very clear about the expectations for Winter Classic. He emailed parents and spoke directly to the kids about signing up for more distance events—like 200s and 500s—in the meets leading up to it. He specifically discouraged doing the same old 50s. The only part that felt less fair was that coaches in the other groups didn’t provide the same level of guidance.

My kids don't swim the Winter Classic, but as I understand it rosters are limited to a set number for each team, with the expectation that kids are swimming the max number of events eligible. I'm that scenario, I could see a kid who has faster times in one stroke not swimming because there is an overall advantage in having another kid who is more balanced. That doesn't mean it is preferential treatment, just a coaching decision.
If you have concerns with the coaching decisions (for club, summer, high school, whatever), talk to the coach. What did T say when you asked why your kid didn't get to swim? And please be honest, this is for posterity.
It's impossible that Torey controls the entire Winter Classic roster, as much as you want that to be true. There are a certain number of slots per team and it's pretty competitive as you get older. There are other York groups and coaches that have input and I'm sure it's based on times, like all "invite" meets. Maybe he has a bigger pull for the younger swimmers, but for the older ones, I can assure you it's tough to get a spot.
