Instruction time = very very little just throwing a ton of tests at them when they are in the classroom.
How long are these assemblies? My kid’s school (Episcopalian, not Catholic) has a school-related non-class block every day: chapel, morning meeting (essentially all-school assembly) twice a week, club meeting time, and advisory meeting time. And they still manage plenty of academic time. Sure, there’s the occasional all-day or half-day event as well, but those are built into the yearly calendar.
