Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is not a "Black and white" issue. DEI is also:
1) Lactation rooms in workplaces
2) Maternity/paternity leave
3) Accessibility considerations for people with different abilities at events and in public spaces
4) Federal holidays centered on religious accommodation (ahem, Christianity)
5) Books available in large print and in Braille and in audiobook formats at your local library
6) Services and special considerations for veterans

Which of these things are you opposed to? Be specific.


All this was around in workplace for a while way before DEI. These were regular HR functions and labor laws. Nothing to do with DEI.

The city is actually not focusing on this; they're opting out of the fight over the name of the plaza. A bunch of people here seem to be focusing on it as proof that they were right all along that only suckers stand up for civil rights.

Generally speaking, my observation is people don't have a problem with diversity (broadly defined, and not just limited to race and gender) or inclusion. What the have a problem with is equity, particularly they way it's defined and implemented by those in the industry, so to speak. That's where it comes off the rails, IMO.

Liberty Plaza is the proposed name in the stupid bill, but as far as I've seen Bowser has been silent on whether that is the intended replacement. Well anyone who actually walks around downtown DC knows that BLM plaza is pretty close to Freedom Plaza. The redundancy in that proximity is pretty silly. I’d much rather pick our own milquetoast name than defer to some moron from Georgia.
