It's not sticking and roads are not icy thanks to heavy salting. Conditions won't become questionable until after 5:30 or so when temps start to go down.

Roads are a disaster already in my neighborhood. Not sure they treated them but the snow is sticking and it’s very slippery.

Well now it's an hour after 5:30, so...

You mean an early release today at 2:00 rather than 3:30? That’s an improvement

keep hoping to get treated like Feds! Definitely not going to bite you in the a$$!

Feds get unscheduled telework anytime there is talk of snow. I’d rather that!

Lately, us feds get constant emails telling us to quit or get fired. Or our department just gets eliminated by an unelected oligarch.

Kinda like teachers hear on this board.

It’s here. Not hear. The fact rhat you made that mistake twice is really egregious.

sorry but PP is correct. It is hear. As in, "on this board, teachers hear that they should quit or get fire."

Hear. Hear. Like with your ears?

How do you know that? I am a Walls teacher and lots of teachers were there the entire day.

No thanks — we already have plans to be out of town this weekend, since there’s no school Friday. Also, if they can’t open school for school because of the weather, how are they supposed to open school for professional development?

I just pray you’re not a fed complaining (justifiably) that RTO is ridiculous. Because PD can certainly be tailored to and benefited from remotely.

If it works for feds, it works for educators. And yes, I believe it works for both cohorts. Stay at home, get your job done. Let us have the same privilege.

(((Anyone who dissents in response to my comment is a bot or musk promoter or actually devoid of independent thought and rational. I will not be responding.)))

Not a fed. Work for a private employer and am required to be in the office five days a week. I’d rather have to stay home Wednesday unexpectedly for a snow day than to cancel a vacation I’ve already booked for Friday.

NP but no need to cancel, just take your kid out of school. For the other thousands of kids in DCPS, switch pd to Wednesday and make Friday a school day.

I bet many other parents have also already made childcare plans for Friday, and I bet most of them are not easily cancelled or swapped for Wednesday. Even if they’re not vacations. Also, if my kids have school, they’re going to school, I’m not taking them out of school for a vacation.

Parents will already need childcare for Wednesday if school is closed and will also need care Friday. Your argument makes no sense.

I was responding to a PP who suggested making Wednesday the PD and having school Friday. Which would mean parents would only need care for Wednesday, and not for Friday — but seems like that would mostly just mean people can't get refunds for Friday care they would no longer need.

I’m loving this idea. If they need a job, we need teachers.

But this will only work if they come emotionally prepared. You don’t really know how hard teaching is until you do it. It’s not easy, like so many on this site believe. It’s long, inflexible hours and very overstimulating. But you do get summers “off” (as you go to trainings and do unpaid prep for the following year).

oh, no doubt teaching is an awful, awful profession. Certainly sounds like it from this board. But being destitute is worse.

The same way decisions should not be based on surrounding school districts whether DCPS closes or not should not be based on workers returning to the office (who by the way should have been back for YEARS).

Bowser should be considering the surrounding school districts because the MAJORITY of DCPS teachers work in those surrounding counties, meaning that just because it's safe in DC proper, roads are dangerous elsewhere. No one should risk their lives to get to work, but Bowser doesn't seem to care about employee safety.

Same copy and paste on every snow thread 😂

DCPS just announced that after school extracurriculars are canceled but aftercare for elementary level students will still be held. I have to say, DCPS is looking pretty reasonable on this. At this point I am not seeing much evidence that we’re gonna get much accumulating snow before dark.

That's mostly the same message for MCPS (for the DCPS teachers working in DC but living in Moco).
