People on DCUM parrot information they heard from other posters. In 3 years, they’ll go back to talking about how they’re applying to Pepperdine and UCLA, and they will make fun of anyone else bringing up wildfires.

The thing is, while you see a morbid pattern, an undergrad at UCLA or Pepperdine may experience disruption from Wildfires once in their 4 year tenure, and it’s never for a full semester or some long duration. It’s not enough to discount an otherwise good college.

What support do OOS students need? Just hop on a plane and leave.

My DD left for relative in San Fran

Please never say that again. It’s like nails on a chalkboard for those us who grew up in the Bay Area. ((Shudders))

Makes sense. It's hard to fly a helicopter with all that smoke!

For USC darling a helicopter is lame - It’s daddy’s private jet and it’s always fueled.

Congrats! Ours is going to the Claremont colleges and we’re excited. California is a beautiful place.

Guilty! Whatever it takes 7 hours is fine with a one hour flight. The same time zone!

This thread introduced me to a whole new DC where there’s no natural disasters that have ever happened.

I get people here are privileged, but it’s awfully annoying hearing people 1000s of miles away with awful speculation on what could happen to perfectly safe colleges bemoan how “this is it” for California colleges. If you

UCLA announced yesterday that classes will be online this week (through 1/17). The campus is open and students have been notified to be ready to evacuate if necessary. They are not under an evacuation order at this time.

My kid turned down a top Cali school and stayed in New England and I’m so glad now.

Prayers for all those people affected. It’s absolutely devastating.

UC apps were due Dec 2. USC is the late one, due this coming Wed Jan 15. No, I don't think at this point this changes their app numbers.

Whether it changes their yield is a different question, though I doubt it. At least by April we will all have a better sense of what is going on with housing near UCLA. USC won't be affected.
