Apologies for some errors in this. I used voice to text and didn’t spellcheck. But I think you get the general gist of what I’m saying.

Sounds like more blue state dollars subsidizing red states economies.

You don't think red state taxpayers will be helping to bail out California from these horrific fires?

How many times has California bailed out Texas, Florida, Louisiana, etc with their hurricanes?

We are a union of states. The anti-California politicking is downright traitorous.

Not any more. Dollars only travel one directions from blue to the red socialist states.

Careful. There will be a full public accounting of whether the reservoirs were full and whether brush was cleared in the wooded areas. If you want to make bold statements like "the reservoirs were full" when even California officials are saying otherwise, it's going to look bad. The left cannot just create reality. No one is going along with it anymore.

The irony, given that your MAGA leader lies constantly.

Presumably democrats are supposed to be better.

And everyone agreeing that Trump is a liar with a bad tan is not going to resurrect those that died in these fires nor un-burn homes, property, historic buildings and public facilities.

The Santa Ana winds have been around for millennia and so have the droughts. Stop blaming cLiMaTe ChAnGe on poor planning and the need to amass gobs of people into small spaces.

I agree with the arson, it seems very deliberate.

We’ve never had a wind storm like that, at least in my memory. I’ve lived here since 2006.

Thank you taking the time to type this.
I’m a proud union member of a different ( but very large) union. This absolutely tracks with what I know of unions, having been a member, and understanding the need for organized labor.

January is the rainy season. This is not normal or else January wouldn’t have been known as the “rainy season”.

According to the Los Angles Almanac for Pasadena: since 2000 rainfall in January has been below the seasonal average by as much as 12%.

Yep. That’s why democrats have been pushing policies to address climate change.

I don't know Chief Crowley personally; but she comes across as a very intelligent, sincere, and honest person. I believe her and think she's telling the truth.

Same here. Compare her to Bass who was blaming everyone else. Politicians have to make tough decisions and there are always chances they will be wrong. When you make a mistake, admit it, explain the reasons n if you like, but ultimately you are responsible for the decision even if you knew it was bad.

👆The posters were blaming Chief Crowley and calling her a DEI hire in the other thread.
But over here she’s 👍
You people are literally the worst.

In March 2022, Crowley replaced the retiring Los Angeles City fire chief who had 40 years of service with the department. Although he was Hispanic, there have been no women of any color who have been fire chief for the city. That chief had to deal with suspending over 100 firefighters who would not be vaccinated against Covid, difficulty in hiring new firefighters, and reduced budget. So not an easy job. I don't think the City would have appointed Crowley had she not been qualified with over 20 years of service in LAFD. The more likely DEI people were voted on the city council by constituents with competing priorities from the very poor to the very wealthy.

Honey, don’t type that out to me.
Go sing Crowley’s praises to all the troglodytes on X and Fox News, and here on this forum that have been screaming DEI hire for the last week.

I was typing that out for those on this forum that have been screaming DEI hire for the last week. I can't imagine that someone who referred to a poster as "honey," could possibly by a troglodyte.

There are somewhat above some things to be learned for sure and some issues that if not present would have helped. But overall mych of What will come out of this will be things that cost money.

Much attention is being paid to the 17M cut from the fire department budget but most folks haven’t asked why? What other cuts were made or other things allocated funds?
California has great fire related building codes. Should they have made every building built before said codes be retrofitted or knocked down and rebuilt? Should the prioritize fire emergency over earthquake preparedness or police and public safety?

And while folks are talking about the impact and pointing fingers, they may want to remember how important Cali is to the US economy.

I'm not MAGA, and I'm not pointing fingers. I do believe the fire chief. Do you? (I doubt she's a Republican)

I’m not saying that the fire chief is lying. The budget is likely publicly available so folks can look it up. That said, now was not the time to be bringing that up and if it came up there were better was to respond. There are budget realities and there are impacts from them. The fire chief, nor mayor, nor governor struck a match to start the wildfire. So trying to lay blame with any of them is pointless.

There will be time after this is done to analyze what could have been done better but now is not that time. This isn’t a democrat vs republican thing. Its not a California against everywhere else thing. It’s a terrible situation and likely the biggest finding is going to be that a whole lot of historical and current decisions came together with nature to create a perfect scenario for destruction. We learn from that and try to do better.

All those burned houses will now not be able to be taxed for what the houses were worth pre fire -a house that was millions of dollars is not worth a lot when it is burned to ground. Will take years to get permits and rebuild. This fire is going to hurt people not even initially affected because this loss will affect all sorts of programs with funding. California is notoriously difficult with building permits. There will be zero appetite to pay more taxes to make up for this and progressives will continue to be blamed. Hoping there are lessons learned but have yet to hear any Democrats agree that you have to prioritize people over little fish. You have to allow fire stops and brush clearing. There has to be a way to have balance. Also all those fire fighters fired for. it taking Covid Vax need to be hired back asap. Also need to allow help with trucks to go directly to fighting fires and not have to do emissions testing first. Wishing the best for California!!!

CA and LA a case study in when you go woke you truly go broke.
