I bought a Honda Pilot this past year. I really like it! I also looked at the Toyota Grand Highlander and the Kia Telluride. I loved both the Pilot and G Highlander. They are both great cars. Ended up with the Pilot because I was able to get a great deal on it. The G Highlanders had just come out so hard to get any price that felt fair. Driving the Telluride felt like a step down in quality. Also, I don't understand how they justify the elevated price given how little it holds its value compared to Honda and Toyota.

Just don't take it on a road trip.. We rented a Kia before and while the car was fine, the charging network is terrible even in the busiest locations. You cannot use Tesla chargers, which are everywhere, you have to find other chargers using apps and hope they are not closed or all taken/broken and hope you don't have to get off the road and drive too far out to get to one. For a 3 row SUV, I would assume it would be a road trip car too unless you have a lot of parking space and money for extra redundant vehicles.


This is true, it can be frustrating on a long road trip. We just got our NACS adapter so we can charge at any Supercharger which should be a game changer when we hopefully get access in March.

Older Highlanders aren't spacious inside despite being huge on the outside and have no acceleration. Unless it's an old 6 cylinder engine. Their new engines are anemic, even non-hybrid. The only palatable option would be Grand Highlander Hybrid Max, but it's not very fuel efficient for a hybrid. I would probably go for a Honda Pilot as they still use 6 cylinders and are cheaper than Grand Highlander and have more spacious interior than an older Highlander.

I have Honda Pilot and I love it.
It’s very comfortable.

But there is not a lot of trunk space with 3rd road. You need a minivan if you want that.

The Honda Pilot Elite drove more smoothly and was very comfortable. I didn’t love the small, awkwardly placed display, some of the buttons were less intuitive to me, and the trunk space was 2 cubic feet smaller. If I were mostly carpooling and could have the 3rd row flat for family travel, I might have picked this option, which I really liked.

The Lexus TX is almost exactly the same layout as the Grand Highlander, but I just could not justify spending at least $10-15 more.

All the others we looked at just did not compare as far as cargo. We looked at MDX, Volvo XC-90, Kia Telluride, Lincoln Aviator, Ford Explorer.
