The platform without the algorithm isn't as valuable. It'll basically be like Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts.
However, I will say that something happened during the shutdown because their once amazing algorithm is now not as great. I used to have a perfectly curated FYP (for you page). It was full of videos on my various interests (reading, animal rescue, jigsaw puzzles, Taylor Swift, LGBTQ rights) and after the shutdown, my FYP has inexplicably included tons of right-wing content. Regardless of how many times I click to indicate "Not Interested" on a video, more will show up. Also, I have personally been the victim of their skewed comment banning. I have had tons of comments banned for violating their community guidelines. Here are a sampling of those "If they're so great, why haven't you bought one yet?" on a video about how great Teslas are; "I don't understand how some people have survived to adulthood." on a video of a guy using a ladder on stairs to change a lightbulb and falling not once but twice; and "What a flashback! I had professor ___ at ___ for Women's Studies in 2007 as well. What day/time was your class?" after coming across a woman finding an old essay she wrote & realizing she went to the same college and had the same professor as me at the same time. The app also keeps unfollowing certain people (Aaron Parnas, AOC, and Jon Ossoff) over and over and automatically following others like Meta and Trump, both of which I have blocked.
MY daughter got a strike for a video where she send Trump was the worse President we ever had.
