Or just pull your kids out the 22/23rd like we are. I mean who really cares. You think any teacher is gonna do crap those two days except put on movies

In the past 21 years of teaching middle school, I’ve shown a movie on the day before a holiday one time.

I'm guessing their logic is that a week starting on Dec 22nd is only 1/7th of the time and due to the calendar quirks hasn't happened since 2014 so they don't have to worry about it very often. In 2026 when December 23rd is Wednesday and Christmas is Friday attendance won't be as bad on Dec 21/22nd since people can still travel can still travel on Wednesday so it will be similar to Thanksgiving week (except the 2 days are full days).

But we know now that MCEA is going to keep looking for ways to cut instructional hours. Now that Zimmerman is on the board, watch out for them trying to switch a bunch of days to half days.

I don’t think this is true. Most teachers don’t love half days. What teachers want is their planning time.

Half days are MCEA's idea for more planning time.

No, they want their planning periods which are being taken away due to lack of subs.

Then MCEA needs to push for higher sub pay. It is ridiculously low.

This maybe a big reason for closing on many holidays next year, yes some students will be out but in a public school system schools can close on holidays for secular reasons only, attendance issues. Even if less than 10% will be out on some of those days if there are a lack of subs due to low pay the schools have to choice to close anyways.

Or they'll restrict how many teachers can take off those days.
