I. Love. IKEA.

I am legit fascinated by the PP who’s eating freaking rainbow trout in a furniture store. But not in a judgey way. It makes me want to try it.

PP. IKEA's hot salmon is good. Their vegetable medallions are good. Also their Swedish Meatballs and Chicken Tenders.

When I lived in DMV, we used to go to the one on I-95 in Virginia and I would get open-faced shrimp & hardboiled egg sandwiches on rye. They were really great. That dish is discontinued.

We stop at the one in Pittsburgh to eat while on the road to travel to family. You can buy hostess gifts there if you need some.

I've had blue crab dishes at the Baltimore IKEA (a long time ago).

Cracker Barrel sells rockers but it's mostly a restaurant with a big gift shop. I got used to eating rainbow trout while touring Germany (where it seemed to be an ordinary fish). And I never make it at home. So it's a fun option on a road trip. If you have time for a waiter service meal.

Little Caesars (sometimes you just want some $8 pizzas)

I had to eat at Cracker Barrel once for a work lunch. My *ss exploded less than two hours later. Never heard of Captain D's or Bojangles. Taco Bell never appealed to me and there's a Cantina one a block from my apartment. Stopped eating fast food after reading Fast Food Nation, but miss Roy Rogers - that stuff was good. I grew up in NYC so never ate chain pizza until I was in my early 20's and immediately hated it. I can get down with Red Lobster, but not Olive Garden.

I have good news for you! Roy rogers still exists! There’s one in Rockville and one in Alexandria.

Too classy for Cracker Barrel and chain pizza, but tacky enough to us a phrase like “ass explosion.” We’re so impressed, PP.

I used to love Captain D’s when I was a kid! And MCL Cafeteria.

I miss MCL Cafeteria so much. Vinegar slaw, roast beef, green beans and all the desserts.

Chick Fil A frosted diet lemonade is one of my favorite desserts, as is the Arby’s apple turnover.

There’s 2 NoVa Roy Rogers that I’m aware of- one on Rt. 1 by Belvoir and another by Kingstowne. They’re not all gone! It was one of my family’s go-to when I was a kid.

I laughed at the mention of Embassy Suites. When I was a kid that was like the height of luxury. We thought three were so lucky to stay at one. A suite!

My teen daughters still get excited about Embassy Suites because it means they don’t have to share a bed (like they do in more expensive hotels) and they love the breakfast and drinking Shirley temples at the happy hour.

Also, I had Golden Corral once when I was with my husband and young kids in an area with not a lot of other choices and it was perfect… I still think about that meal 15 years later!

Another low brow things I prefer: drugstore makeup for most things is sufficient.

Buffets in general are my “lowbrow” fave. Remember Sizzler? Being able to pile everything you want on your plate, getting ten entrees, second helpings! Anybody who doesn’t love that is living a sad life, imho.

I was also chagrined to find out Ann Taylor was lowbrow. When I was a kid, it was wear my rich friends’ moms shopped, lol. It ain’t luxury, but it ain’t Walmart either (except on DCUM!).
