Big recommendation for Letters from an American, the Heather Cox Richardson newsletter. It’s free (you can contribute to her substack, if you’re enclined) and there’s also a podcast. Short, factual accounts of us news that matters with an historical long view. This is all I can stomach lately, along with some bbc newshour and local outlets.

Audiobooks have been a great replacement for a steady diet of podcasts. I use Libby to save money. I walk outside very day and try to cut back on news. Obsessing won’t help. We can only react to things that have actually happened.

Yes. Until they learn how to appropriately report on an authoritarian, they will not get my eyes and ears. They are supposed to be the defenders of democratic and they failed miserably.

MSNBC has turned purely into Gates' propaganda machine and can no longer be considered a legitimate source of factual news.

My grandfather (a true blue democrat) HATED Bill Clinton and would mute any time he showed up on tv.

Basically. For Politics, I come here and look at the Political topics, If any seem interesting, I'll read the first few pages to get an idea before the fighting back and forth starts. I listen to NPR at 6PM for economics. The local news is all bad news so I avoid it. I get the crime alerts on my phone and that is usually enough to keep me depressed and dreaming about moving to a tiny house off grid.

Yep apparently cable news shows are down year after year. TV news viewers for this election was down 25% vs 2020 and 40% from 2016. The analysis points to no Trump bump any more, segmented social media and corporations moving away from political cover. Twitter is also struggling.
This is why the big media companies are selling out the news/political shows.

It is always tragedies and human suffering. I hid my news app.

Yes, I needed a break from the bad news. I also realize that every news channel is curating the information and we are all being manipulated- not just Fox News. I am sick of it.
