Presumably, the student has now canceled out someone else’s vote. This is justice denied.
The real problem is that is unreasonable to expect Americans to have confidence in an electoral system that makes it difficult to virtually impossible to detect fraud.
Perhaps voter fraud is not a widespread problem. Perhaps it is. There really is no way to know because election security is not taken seriously.
Okay. So sounds like you're already calling for the the election to be halted.
This must be the GOP playbook. They know Trump is going to lose so they are coming up with all sorts of disaster scenarios why it has to be tossed out.
Meanwhile, there has never once been an election in this country without some fraudulent votes or miscounted votes. Never. Not one. Yet we've survived -- because in the scheme of things a handful of wrongly counted or bad ballots is not going to change the outcome in an election with millions of votes.
I called for no such halting of the election.
All I know is that every time a “handful” of either party’s key constituency is denied a chance to vote (say, long lines at polling stations necessitating longer operating hours) I hear all about how “every single vote must count.” When we have verifiable instances of voter fraud then “it’s just a handful of votes that don’t matter.”
What I also understand is that in many states election integrity is an afterthought and it is very difficult to virtually impossible to know if voter fraud (disenfranchisement) is or is not happening. How do you verify election integrity when chain of custody and voter records are very difficult to track?
If a foreign student can register and vote (possibly as a misguided prank) then a more nefarious actor could do so much worse.
Yes, you’ll be able to respond that there is no proof of widespread fraud. But it is equally true that you cannot prove our elections are secure and safe because in many states election integrity is simply not addressed.
Plz note: I’m staying away from partisan implications, here.

Yes, we should cancel all American votes and allow our political elites and lobbyists to choose the PRESIDENT.
Right?
Nah just require photo ID and actually require proof of citizenship, not just self attesting.
What is your proof of citizenship?
Birth certificate or passport.

THIS IS NOT A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM NO MATTER WHAT YOUR MAGA MASTER SAYS.
Correct.
At most, it probably only happens a half million or so times each national election. Tops. No more than that.
That is fake news from your dear leader. If you can find reputable sources saying that 500K noncitizens are voting for the president then I’ll share your outrage.
I’ll wait….
Every illegal vote cancels a citizen’s vote. It’s a shame you aren’t at all upset by someone being disenfranchised unnecessarily.
Virginia is removing from the voting rolls 1600 people suspecting that they may not be citizens, just days before the election even though state law said this type of actions should not be done in the last 90 days before the election (who knows why Youngkin sat on his a$$ until right before the election to do something). news outlets have already identified a number of people who were canceled who are US citizens, two of them actually born in the US, one of them had no clue she had been cancelled. many more or even all of the 1600 may be citizens, but I bet you could not care less that they are disenfranchised right?
1600 people who self-identified as non-citizens and therefore ineligible to vote*
Stop lying. They did not self-identify as non-citizens.

Used a student ID - exactly why Republicans do not support them as voter ID.
And the vote counts.

If they are attending Michigan they are residents of Michigan.
Nope.
College students should not be able to register to vote in at their university location unless they pay in state tuition rates or have an in state driver license. It makes no sense that people can vote in a state if the are not even considered a state resident for college tuition purposes.

I’m definitely upset about being disenfranchised by the GOP and Trump’s talk about how voting is rigged and tainted and that he will only lose because of voter fraud. That’s scary sh!t and I’m definitely afraid of his bullying states to not certify their electors. I’m definitely afraid of voter disenfranchisement, but not because of one random foreign student at Michigan.
Trump was upset that Pennsylvania was illegally closing voting lines on the last day of mail in ballot requests, at 1:45 pm. The law says the lines had to stay open until five. Luckily a judge agreed and is forcing another day for voters. We just have to hope that those disenfranchised Bucks County voters who were illegally turned away come again to vote.
Surely you would agree with Trump and the judge that Pennsylvania needs to follow the law?
