I still use tampons. They’re the easiest for me. I have tried 3 different brands and different sizes of cups and will still use them in an emergency but I just never really liked them much, they are really uncomfortable to take out for me.

Cups are so amazing! I drink a lot of water and pee often. Trying not to pee on the tampon string was hard and gross.

The first cup day needs changed a couple of times but all the other days get changed in the morning and then in the evening. I can forget I’m even on my period.

46 here, and have used everything and am just riding out the next few years without commitment to anything.

Pads as a teen because “is it true I won’t be a virgin if I use tampons??”

Tampons as a late teen, birth control in my early 20s meant periods so light I didn’t need anything.

Babies in my forties and no more hormonal birth control meant much heavier periods. Had to go back to tampons because I sure wasn’t going to use pads.

Got the idea to try cups around age 40. Bought no less than ten different sizes/brands and had outrageous leaking with all. Read every Internet forum, and watched every YouTube and finally decided my body must not work with cups. Tried a disc instead - works pretty great!!

But….. the once a day I pull it out….. totally bloodbath. Blood up the walls, all over my hands, all over the toilet seat. Have tried so many ways to avoid it, but something about the suction coming out means it bursts everywhere. Have often thought: what would I have done as a 25 year old working ten hours a day in an office??? Now I work from home so it’s no big deal.

But last year I got a totally out of left field kidney infection. No uti. Best guess is a dislodged disc caused it. It was so scary. I’ve been a lot more nervous to use the cup and have been wavering between tampons (when I leave the house) and thinx. Feels weird still for blood to just come out. Again, couldn’t do that if I were in an office. Dogs in the neighborhood circle me like a shark no lying.

Cups are disgusting what pot do you boil them in the same one as your pasta???

No tampons tss and any chemicals in your tampons go right into your blood stream. No utis with pads either.

Right but if you've never used one then the thought of getting the hang of it in your 40s (and dealing with the literal mess while you're on the learning curve) is just a no go.

I'm happy for younger women that they've figured this out as an option and they should do whatever works for them. But there is no amount of proselytizing that is going to convince me to try a cup. No thank you.

Many of my friends don't get periods because they're on continuous bc. I can't really think of anyone I know who has mentioned a cup. I'm 42.

It's definitely out of fashion among younger women. I am mid 40s and use them but all my friends who are under 40 do not and think it's kind of weird that some of their older friends do.

I have seen and understand the argument that they are not environmentally conscious but frankly I do not care -- I am too old to learn to use a menstrual cup and I have been through enough as a woman reproductively that I just feel entitled to this at this point. I never flush tampons and I only really use them for two days each cycle (I use period underwear the rest of the time when I have a light flow). It's good enough.

The idea of wearing a pad is insane to me. I was so happy to learn how to use tampons in high school and to be done with pads forever (except post-partum but whatever everything sucks post-partum).

Tampons for sure. But I’m on BC so I only use a handful a month.

You empty it more often. But if you have a heavy period or it's your heavier days, you just accept that it's a messy process. Women who must empty it in public places (like work) may not enjoy it during the day but may like it more overnight or on the weekends.

It should be illegal to empty it in public places. It's a blood bath. And rinsing it in a communal sink? That is NOT safe, it's a huge public safety hazard not to mention gross. Just don't.

You don't need to rinse out. You empty it out and at most use a bit of TP to wipe the cusp, then put it back in. It's no less disgusting than a tampon, or poop...
