We are a new family this year and this was the stereotype that we kind of thought however we’ve found the exact opposite. The school is very diverse and the moms are not at all how you describe. Sure, there are some like that but it is hardly the majority. You clearly don’t go to the school and have had very limited exposure. We have found Bullis to be welcoming, diverse, well run, and an overall great fit for our lower school child. Our child loves going to school every day. We are very happy that she’s there.

Agree with this. Our DC is new and have found their place. Great community.

My child actually goes there. She loves the size. The classes are small and she gets a lot of teacher attention, there is a huge variety of classes because they have the kids to support it, and the grade size means there’s tons going on and tons to get involved in. Oh, and friend choice, which she didn’t have in her small K-8, which she found stifling.

160 in a class is ridiculous for a private school. Why do that? Oh yeah, for the money.

To the above - where are you looking instead? We are looking at Bullis because it’s not too small even though it is bigger than GDS, Sidwell, Potomac, it’s not as big as St. John’s. It has enough kids to support many extracurricular and AP classes. Kid doesn’t want single sex or religion. And we can probably get in. Maybe our kid will even be close to top of the class without killing themselves. There is a need for a place for the kids not getting into Big 3’s that is still challenging. I can jump through some hoops.

Update: just got an email announcing some dates to come meet the HOS and Head of US at a coffe with optional tour. Not sure if that went out to people who started an application but have not submitted anything or what but I was pleased to see that—or at least until I realized the coffee wasn’t until December 12 for US. At that point it’s past the deadline for our school re transcript requests and teacher recommendations so essentially you have to have all of that together before you sign up for the coffee/tour. Which brings me back to being annoyed about all the hoops to jump through just to get a sense of the place. If DC was in 7th, it would be a good option but unfortunately it’s too little too late.

Re people complaining about the size, some kids actually want a school that’s a little bigger. Personally I think 160/grade is a bit too much and I would be upset if I applied/accepted thinking it was 100/120 and then there was an extra 40-60 kids.
