It’s really just a social trend right now, pushed by social media mostly.

Lately I have begun wondering if my dad was actually gay and his father as well. My mom was also best friends with our neighbor who later left her husband and married a woman so there are things to wonder about there. My father was pressured by his family into marrying my mother after they dated for ten years. Everybody was very Catholic. She told me she never wanted to get marry and have children and would have been fine if she hadn’t. (Great thing to hear as a child.)
. I had a gay cousin as well. My brother claims he is straight but he sure wasn’t in college! He married at 34 due to social pressure.
So 2/6 in my generation and 3/13 in the subsequent generation if you look at cousins. Appears to be a pattern, appears to be passed down. Mostly among the men.

But when it comes down to it, if you are going to be living your life as a queer person the "fad" isn't going to continue. Just keep letting your kids be who they are and love them. That is all that matters.

+1
Most kids identifying as LGTBQIA+ today are just following social trends; particularly social trends they find on Social media.

They are finding intersex fish, in polluted rivers, with both male and female organs, due to estrogen mimicking compounds. Humans are exposed, maybe at lower doses, but there are a lot of hormone mimicking compounds out there.
So, if this is a big factor, and I think it could be, it would be causing movement in one direction (feminization). So this could cause more males to become less masculine and possibly identify as gay or trans-feminine. It is unlikely to be causing more masculine females. Not sure how the science would work on that.
