As long as they want to. If they don’t want to play patty cake at a birthday party then that’s fine too. It’s ok to let them grow up and be their own person, not who you want them to be.

It depends on what they want to do and what those adult like interests happen to be. And we really need to stop equating kids being kids to them acting like they're 3. Plenty of ways for older kids to be kids.

Why can’t they roam the neighborhood? Last year for 13 my daughter and her friend planned the party. It sounded strange to us but we had strict orders to stay out of their way. They wanted to stay in the garage (not even our finished basement), listen to music, eat food and yes, they ended up roaming the neighborhood. She gave us a shopping list of food to buy. I think they walked around and made tik toks. She said they had a great time.

This year for 14 they plan on going to the mall and going out to dinner.

We’re taking a group of kids to dinner and that’s it. Omg you all with the craft parties — my dd would die at those suggestions. We don’t have a house big enough for that anyhow. We might bring them to the house for a movie until they get picked up, not sure yet….I’ve found that more 6-7 kids in my house at a time creates havoc and we’re taking about 12 out to eat, so we’ll see….
