Go to the CDC and look at the growth charts. There is one that has height on one axis and weight on the other. I would say that chart is more illuminating than the weight of strangers' kids. It is also important to track your child's height and weight over time. If they stray from their normal curve, you'll want to find out why. In other words, a kid who has always been 75th percentile height and 50th percentile weight, should be checked out if one or both of those change significantly.

Dead center average for 5 year old boys goes from 40 to 46 lbs over the course of the year from turning 5 to 6 years old.
Normal range (3%-97%) goes from 35-48 lbs to 39-50 lbs over the same timeframe.
A short boy at turning 5 years, say about 40-41 inches, would not be surprising to have a weight of 35 lbs.
