The Dems have a momentum that we haven't felt since Obama. The base is ready.

Kamala addressed the nation, not just the base, in her speech. Independents are polling for her, not for Trump.

No one is passionate about RFK. He was the "none of the above" candidate and has been tanking.

We're good.

RFK was polling quite well in a number of swing states, and the margins there are razor thin. I do think it matters.

I don’t think Kamala and Walz can survive forever on the good vibes machine. Obama had good vibes and policy and he was fighting the establishment (GW Bush). Kamala has nothing more than the vibes, and that’s not enough.

It does matter, but let's be honest, the people supporting RFK wanted an option that wasn't Trump. They still won't want Trump

But they will vote for him over Harris

Or they will move to Jill Stein, who is also on the ballot in many places again. Or do a write in for him. Or not vote.

Call her stupid all you want. She’s not. She’s a former prosecutor who has run a campaign with amazing message discipline— and discipline, period. It’s going to be an amazing contrast to Trumps rambling and erratic behavior.

Plus, she’s younger than Trump and much more attractive. I think the visual of youth v age and Trump rambling and her shrugging, saying she can’t respond because he’s incoherent and weird and looking younger and better is a JFK v Nixon moment.

She does not need to be policy heavy to win because Trump’s main policies are grievances and retribution. Her upbeat campaign will do well against that.

Plus, Trump is on his heels. He has yet to find a good response to her. None of his insults are sticking. He can’t even land a good nickname.

Maybe I’m wrong. But, I think Trump looks like Biden did in his first debate when he goes against her. Definitely think more people than normal will tune is.

What is her message though? Other than criticizing Trump and throwing out some grand ideas she can never accomplish, what’s her platform?

1. Not Trump
2. No insurrections
3. Pro-choice.
4. Pro-NATO
5. Pro-Israel, but has separated herself from Biden on Gaza
6. Child Tax Credit

Etc. You realize she has a website with her policies, yes. Google is your friend.

That is, BTW is much more coherent than Trump, who has no policy positions.

What is her pro choice policy proposal?

I'm sure it's similar to this, which would codify Roe as Federal law: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/senate-bill/701

In fact, her campaign has publicly stated that this is her position. Restore Roe via law.

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/07/29/kamala-harris-abortion-restoring-roe-00171657

So, no third trimester abortions. That means that in some states that now have no restrictions women will have less reproductive freedom under Harris than they would under Trump.

No stupid, that's not what it means.

Do you think Kamala can actually maintain momentum?

Do the Dems have any new tricks up their sleeve if she starts to falter?

She got the announcement boost, then the Tim Walz boost, and then the Convention boost. But that’s all over and the debate(a) loom large.

Can she translate vibes into policy? Predictions?

LOL. That RFK announcement is a blip. It stole the news cycle for about 45 minutes.

+1
It barely made the headlines.

+2. It’s one news cycle two months from the election. And Trump years are like dog years. So much chaos. You think anyone remembers or cares in 2 months?

Third trimester abortion is post viability and has always been available in some states in rare case where the mother’s life/health is at stake. By third trimester, you’ve had your screening ultrasound and have known for a few weeks if the fetus has an abnormality or condition incompatible with life. Actually needing a third trimester abortion vs premature delivery is very rare.

I’m pretty liberal and am against unlimited/ post viability abortions. So are most Americans. I don’t think any states allow unlimited 3rd trimester abortions. There are apparently only a single digit number of doctors in the US who will perform them. And again, the criteria for them is strict even where legal. Usually if something goes wrong in the third trimester, you deliver a premie and pray.

Are you saying the guy who brags about overturning Roe v Wade now supports unlimited third trimester abortions? Because I don’t support that. At all. And the national bill would allow the states where third trimester abortion for futile pregnancies to continue. Remember, federal rights are a floor. Not a ceiling.

In short— a terrible talking point, as out of step with American opinion as zero abortions, and not actually a gotcha.

What about post birth abortion (ie murdering a human that has been born, which is obviously illegal everywhere). Does Trump support that too?

If she has one then she hasn’t made it public yet. Maybe at her first press conference this week she’ll tell us.

If you think she hasn't made it public yet, then you simply are not listening to her or reading her website.

https://kamalaharris.com/

this is her website. Where are her policies?

I can’t seem to find her platform either, does anyone know where it’s at on her website?

Trump puts a link to his platform on the first page.

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/

Why can’t Kamala do the same? I’d love to compare them.

I have asked several times in separate threads for links to Kamala’s platform/policies/plans. I wonder if I am unable to find them as many
democrats insist Kamala has them online, but nobody will link to them. They just keep saying that Kamala’s policies are online somewhere.

Third trimester can happen if the life of the mother is at risk or the fetus is no longer viable. That is Roe.

+1 and good luck finding a doctor that would voluntarily abort a viable fetus at that point. You MAGAs are so disingenuous with your quick takes. Trump supports a national abortion ban (despite his recent protests to the contrary) and so do the MAGAs if they win the House and Senate.

I guess growing up in this country I thought that’s what candidates do? That if you want that job, you answer questions from the press? She says she can handle all the tough foreign leaders- ok, I sort of believe that may be true, but then why not the press?

It was what candidates did pre-social media and pre-internet when the way to reach voters was through press interviews and flyers and canvassing. With the internet and social media, candidates can reach voters directly. You and I are probably around the same age. the old school way to do things in campaigns has changed dramatically over the last 20 years.
