My 9 yo is at practice that doesn’t end until 8:30 twice a week.

I feed mine dinner before sports so afterwards its just snack, shower, bedtime.
Same - kids eat as soon as they get home from school at 4:15. Practice is 5-7. Back home for a snack, shower and bed at 8/8:30.
Homework is done in the mornings.
Mornings? Mine walk to school at 7:45!

Due to birthday my 4th grader is 9 turning 10. 10pm bedtime.
10 pm is way too late for a school night.
I have a kid the same age. 9 or 9:30 at the absolute latest. Changing to to 8:30 or 9.
How? I am not even off the clock until 5:30, usually it’s 6:15 by the time I actually finish work. Drive home, then to even get in the house, go pee, wash hands, change out of work clothes to prevent staining those while cooking, then to even begin dinner isn’t until 7:30.

10:00 to 8:00 is enough sleep. Many kids need or naturally want to wake earlier and if that's your kid then you're right 10:00 is too late. But Fairfax county doesnt start elementary school until 9:10. So many kids don't wake until 8:00 or even later.
I'm a parent with a 4th grader who has sports practices until 9:00 and I was initially freaking out about it becauseI also believed all kids should be asleep by 8:30 or something like that, but its been OK. And actually kind of nice to have the flexibility to do things later.

You need a nanny or don’t work
I didn’t even put in the time for heavy traffic. That’s exactly why I’m trying to figure out what hours these people are working.
A lot of us chose to live near where we work. I have a 15 minute commute. I'm home by 5:30.
It takes more than 15 minutes to go five feet inside of Tysons Corner, Merrifield, anywhere in Fairfax County these days.

Most 4th graders are 9.
And yes my 9 year old goes to get at 8. If it is a practice or game night it might be 8:30. But I don’t change bedtime the other nights because of 1-2 sports nights per week. Our games and practices are 6-7:30. But we live in a county with early ES start times so it’s normal here for kids to go to sleep early.
No. Most THIRD graders are 9. Starting Oct 1 of 3rd grade is when (around here) they all start to turn 9. Only the absolute youngest kids will turn 9 in Sept of 4th grade.

Every single 4th grader who was not redshirted starts 4th grade at 9. Most 4th graders spend the first half to 3/4 of the school year at age 9. A few will have fall birthdays, but no more than 1/4 of the class.
