Op here. I felt so old and out of place in Miami. We tried the arts district, we tried restaurants for dinner, I just felt it was not my vibe or my scene as an unfashionable, heavier, mom of three. Miami and Houston as well were my two. I won’t see those again.

Anonymous wrote:This is closer to home: Colonial Beach.
Last summer we were looking for a beach that's doable for a day trip from nova. Colonial Beach came on our radar. From my quick research, it sounded promising.
The place was dead in the middle of summer. The beach itself was littered with bird poop, and the sand hard. There were barely a handful of restaurants/cafes open. It was very depressing.
Anonymous wrote:orlando! I took my kids for a weekend in winter (we were in the boston area) and everything sucked. The best part was just hanging at the pool by the hotel, but they actually wanted to leave disney by mid day---hot crowded gross food etc. We had been to disneyland in california once and had a lovely time--this wsa different. And downtown orlando is just a fake ass weird strip mall.
The other terrible vacation we had was in sarasota. It was so hot even the ocean felt like a bathtub and there wasn't much to do.
I have liked miami well enough and lauderdale by the sea and the keys as well as parts of the panhandle (A1A) so I'm not totally against florida.
Otherwise I think I've always found something interesting, though there are places where I was fine but have no desire to return (tybee island, ga comes to mind).

I went to one in Mexico alone, and was hoping that having people do things for me and not having to make decisions would be lovely. I got so bored I rented a car and drove to Tulum instead. The other was with my husband in the DR, and it was pretty, but just..fine.
The meals are...fine, but clearly catering to a boring middle america white person (PS not to be confused with the thread on all "fly over people," just a certain kind). The drinks are underwhelming. And then you just feel trapped, and like it doesn't make any sense to leave the resort, but then the resort isn't amazing either.
They also seem to be avoidant of any of the local culture, apart from that tiny section at the end of the lunch buffet, and it's a challenge to get out of the resort.
You sound annoying.
I'm interested to hear her take. I got invited to one of these in a few months and I've never been. I have a feeling it won't be for me just based on this post, but I like to try everything once.

Closer to home, I really don’t care for the Poconos. Mediocre food, iffy housing stock, aggressive NY/NJ drivers, crowds.

I didn't like Vienna between Christmas and New Year's! Maybe Baroque architecture is just not my thing?
A travel forum I used to be on years ago had numerous Vienna fans, and they were always promoting the place -- if someone asked a vague "where to go in Europe?" they'd always recommend Vienna. I didn't hate it, but I'd never go out of my way to go back.
I didn’t like Vienna and I know a lot of other people who didn’t. It felt cold and dull, especially after we’d just experienced the charm and liveliness of Prague.
