Rarely post in this forum but that speech was so moving. I don't see how you could dislike that, regardless of party affiliation. An appreciation of the blessings he received to go from Scranton to the oval, a love of this country, a look to the future. Truly a beautiful encapsulation of what the country was built on.

He's a good person, and a good leader. Effective (as effective as one could be in this climate, at least), steady, predictable, reliable, and compassionate. The world is a better place for having people like Joe Biden in it.

I'm glad he stepped away from the race, as I don't think he has it in him to finish the campaign let alone another 4 years in office. But I'm also sad for him, and for our country that he had to do so.

More cynically (but also optimistically), I think he set Harris up well by staying in as long as he did. If he'd dropped out 6 months ago, or declined to run at all, Democrats would be very divided on Harris vs other candidates. By waiting until now to drop out, we are much more ready to unify behind Harris without a food fight on the left. She comes into this race from a position of strength now, with no primary battle scars. So what some see as selfishness on his part, for staying in this long - I think his departure was actually well timed.

He didn’t “wait.” He had a disastrous debate and the party leadership made a judgement call and pushed him out. He couldn’t continue a campaign with a non unified party. He ceded power because he wanted what’s best for the party and country. Meanwhile, the GOP puts forward a candidate who refuses to accept Democratic election results.

It was clear he had no business serving as POTUS until 2029 long before the June debate. Only when compared to Trump did that ever make sense. Thanks to Joe's selfishness we have an appointed nominee that may or may not have been nominated as the people's choice in a typical nomination process. Disgusting!

We need more true believers in this country. Too many people have stopped believing in what we can do when we come together. They would rather argue and fight. We are destroying ourselves. Biden is right that our fate is in our own hands.
